Picked up my nook from John Lewis last night and have the same problem; can't register it :( Hoping that it's something to do with the B&N server rather than all of our Nooks!

Oh no! I bought one from JL a few weeks ago and it is still in the box as it is a present for OH.

Perhaps I should give it to him early so that we can check if there is a problem:eek:

There was a rumour a couple of weeks back that on 1st June 2013 a software update was due to start happening...

I wonder if there is any truth in this? Anyone noticed anything?

I am hoping that its just a network problem with B&N. I went on the offical website to try and find a contact email address to ask about the issue. I seen that you could live chat with an adviser but when I clicked it says that the service is down. So prehaps there is some truth to the updating of software. I sent an email anyway so lets hope get some answers.

I have attempted to use the 'live chat' on a previous occasion, and it was a complete waste of time - terrible customer service:mad:

As to why re-convert using Calibre, I do this to change the font size to suit my ageing eyes. Although with the Nook this is not as necessary as it was with my Sony.

Luckily the Nook does have a large range of fonts ;). Putting it through the convertor unnecessarily could mess up formatting, only reason I mentioned it.

i didnt realise i didnt have to convert it... i was on work computer and it opened as a book style page so i assumed i'd need to convert it to work on the nook. but i didnt! clever little things arent they!

Managed to get onto the Chat with a nook expert *pfft expert gotta be having a laugh* and then said that the problem has been escalted and that they are looking into it immediately. Told me to do a restart by pressing the power button the pressing again to turn off and then pressing again to get a blank screen and pressing the lower left and right page turner buttons I did all this but no blank screen appeared. It crashed and was stuck on the "Your nook is now loading" screen and it was clear that the agent was just typing from a script.

In the end they gave up and said if still an issue contact them in 48 hours for a replacement or go back to john lewis for one.

Get what u pay for I suppose. It was a birthday present for my mum so feel rather embrassed and I don't have money to be getting buses to john lewis for something that isn't my fault. Should of just went halfs on a kindle tbh.

Well a few people on here have said that they didn't have as many issues with the kindle as they do with the nook. Just seems to be constant problems with it.Couple weeks back they were sending US Nooks instead of UK and now they have another issue.

As a poster said before customer service is quite poor as well I got the feeling from the adviser that they just wanted John Lewis to sort the issue.

Don't really know what your problem is tbh

I didnt know asking a question meant someone had a 'problem'
Well lets start with your basic consumer rights are with John Lewis
Secondly B&N have been swamped with demand with the Nook and as such made a !!!! up on the US firmware. look over the boards and you will see they rectified this for those contacting them
At this point the issue you are describing is new and as such they would be trying to work out what they issue is.
There are many many people who are running Nooks with no issues

I just don't see why u would bother posting it to be honest. What help does it offer anyone just seems you wanted to be a bit rude to me.

I know the fault also is with John Lewis as they are selling the product and should of checked the item first. However companies like to hand the blame onto one another leaving the consumer normally the one who has to do all the running about and stress of returning items.

I understand companies have issues but am not the only one who is a little bit disappointed with Nooks customer service. I just got palmed off with a lame wait 48 hours or return to john lewis.

This is why I don't really post on this board anymore because someone always attacks something you say for no real reason. Its not very nice and makes me not want to post anything. I have given a report of how I am dealing with the problem and what customer service have told me am just trying to help others. I certaintly don't need people being rude or crossing out my mistakes.

And thats the last am going to comment and from now on my posts will be about the topic and trying to inform, help others or find help myself. This thread alone is cluttered with pointless disagreements and makes it hard to find useful information.
