Do you, or anyone know if we can 'unregister' our cards now the nooks are set up?
I managed to set mine up without registering a card on the B&N site. Am just downloading free books from other sites, like Amazon and using Calibre to convert them.
Didn't want to accidentally end up ordering something I didn't want and then get charged for it.0 -
Has anyone bought a Nook from John Lewis, because of the two year included guarantee? I ordered mine on Click and Collect from Waitrose, as there's no JL store near me, but there is no information in the package about guarantee or warranty? o_O0

JL provide the 2 year cover,not B&N
so it wont be mentioned on the box0 -
Yeah, obviously! But how do I get the info about it? Is it just in the ether or what?0

As far as I'm aware you can avoid credit/debit card registration altogether - I did this by creating an account via Nook on the web and then just logging into it on the Nook ST.
But as the Nook requires CC reg for any downloads including their free books (the CC info forms part of their DRM strategy) this means you can only get books from elsewhere eg Kobo which doesn't require a CC to be registered, or Gutenberg or loads of others...
But you can protect yourself from accidentally buying from Nook by selecting "Require Password for Purchases" on your Nook in Settings, Shop ... Therefore if it got into the wrong hands there wouldn't be loads of trouble from someone downloading things.

I have downloaded it and looked at it as an ePub, will try converting through calibre when on my own machine.
It really is an excellent read, a true Great American Novel, I recommend it heartily.
Why would you convert? ePub books work natively on the Nook.====0 -

Exactly what I did too, but you've explained far more eloquently than I could have done!0 -

I didn't get a printed 2yr guarantee or invoice in my JL parcel either, just a delivery note.
However, if you login to your 'My John Lewis' account and click on your Nook order, it says " 2 year guarantee included - £0.00 "
I imagine you just quote the order reference number should you need to use the guarantee.0 -
Just wanted to take the opportunity to thank the OP and all the other contributors to this thread. Back in April I had no idea what a Nook was, although I did quite fancy a Kindle and had been deterred by the price.
I had a hiccup when trying to buy from Very, but the purchase from Asda went smoothly. I have a nice official cover for it from Argos, a Poundland-purchased clip-on light, Calibre on my PC (with de-DRM plugin) and lots of free books on my Nook downloaded from Amazon and other sites mentioned by other posters, including some great guidebooks for a city break we are taking at the end of the summer. I can charge up my Nook using my phone charger.
I would have none of the above without the help of many of the posts on this thread.
Thank you all!
