No. Press and hold the power button, and you get a screen that says your nook is switched off.

however, power drain is so low on these things it's not worth turning them off completely - the tree screenlock page is sufficient.

Yes when you have the static "screen saver" image on the screen the device is effectively off.

btw. if you turn off wifi the battery will last much longer - quick access to the wifi settings is via double tapping the top bar with the clock when in the home screen.

btw2. the stock supplied screensavers are that tree or the authors (you can select these in settings, screen options ...) but you can add others of your choice - see the vid here for details how this is done -

My leather case ordered from play.com arrived today, excellent value at £4.99 with free delivery (from the U.S.!), and a clip-on reading light too :)

Nook Simple Touch still available at blackwell bookshop online (sorry can't post link but is on their front page) for £29 but with £2.50 postage.
All the other places I tried were sold out.

I still haven't had a REFUND from Nook, will need to chase it as it was never actually received (I refused delivery), and it is on my CC statement this month.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker Car Insurance Carver! Xmas Saver!
I showed mine to my dad today, he was quite taken with it... Good job I guessed he might like it and ordered 2, so his birthday present is sorted :)

I'm currently reading Little Big Man, by Thomas Berger, and to buy it from Barnes & noble it's £11!!! Which is twice what I paid for the paperback! how can they justify that cost?! It's a classic from the 60s not a top 10! I'd like to get it on ebook as its quite a big book to carry around but at that price it's not MSE! -and I can't find it for free either :(
Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!
