cooking-mama wrote: »Thanks Kenr, appreciate you taking the time to post this, unfortunately I have no idea what Root ,or ePub format means, sorry
Root,is a method of hacking the Nooks software to run programs it wasnt originally allowed to run
epub is the book format/file type for the Nook
just like you get MP3s etc in music, you get different formats in ebooks0 -
When you buy/download an ebook you can do so in multiple formats (think VHS vs Betamax). The most common are epub (used by a LOT of readers) and kindle (used by Amazon exclusively)
So if you are on B&N or WH Smith etc then you get can your book in epub format, and it can be read on the Nook. On Amazon you get it in Kindle format (not sure if they even offer different formats) which will not be readable on the Nook without either :-
rooting - allowing the Nook to run s/w that isn't supplied by B&N, e.g. the Kindle app.
or using Calibre, Kindle for PC & the hack to remove the drm then convert it to epub then sending it to the Nook.Registered Linux user #497422 :beer:0 -

The way to transfer stuff/pdfs is via pc only. Only Nook books can be transfered via wifi as far as I know.
Does have a web browser IIRC, but I've nver used it.The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.0 -
