Smart parking fine in Matalan

Hi guys.
Advice needed please as went shopping yesterday to matalan and in my local town it's free parking, anyway we decided to go to another outlet 8 miles away in near by town. So parked up and went to matalan not even thinking about purchasing a ticket as always thought was free as in our local store. After 30 mins we returned to the car an Bam sparking ticket. I saw the attendant and explained the above and asked him if he could revoke it- too which he declined and said I need to appeal.

The landowners damages will be limited to whatever the pay and display fee is, on the assumption that you wouldn't have got it back when spending over a certain amount in store.
You could do a soft appeal to 'not-so' smart to get a popla code to hit popla with a hard appeal, you could also go back to check the signs to see if they have 'Ltd' on.0 -

No-one here pays private parking tickets. If this was in Scotland then completely ignore it and just file it with all the stupid letters that follow.
If in England/Wales ONLY, assuming that it was a fake PCN you found on your windscreen, then either IGNORE IT And all the Debt Recovery Plus/Zenith hysterical but toothless letters that will follow, or wait for the first letter - Notice to Keeper - then appeal it to the company then to the second stage, POPLA (read the sticky threads about POPLA).
Do not appeal YET even though the rubbishy ticket probably says you 'should'.
Wait for them to write to you first, maybe they won't (I had a fake PCN like that!). If they do send a Notice to Keeper, keep the envelope if it's got a different posting date on it than the letter inside, and see also if they have met the requirements for registered keeper liability at that point:
http://www.parkingcowboys.co.uk/keeper-liability/
Then look to word something as forceful as this (no mitigating circumstances here you'll notice!):
http://www.parkingcowboys.co.uk/appeal-letter/
...or like the shorter letter citing BPA Code breaches, used in this pepipoo thread (see middle pic in the first post, bear in mind your breaches you identify may not be the same as these of course). With this softer/shorter appeal version, you may wish to also point out you were a customer of Matalan and include a copy of your receipt:
http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=78547
Then if they reject, check other stuff as I just mentioned in post #7 of this thread and include LOADS of demands and grounds of appeal in a POPLA submission (which costs the PPC money and is only binding on them, not you).
So wait for the NTK and tell us whether you've decided to be an ignorer or an appellant. DO NOT get twitchy and think you should appeal now.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

The ticket looks pretty real!!!! If I wait for the notice to keeper letter which will be sent out after the 14 days which I have 1 day left does this mean I have lost the right to the discounted price?0 -

Oh stoppit you are making me laugh, 'the right to the discounted price'! IT'S A SCAM, NOT SOME BARGAIN OFFER! You won't be PAYING it!!:rotfl:
And their fake PCNs do not look 'real' - is it just because of the pretty pics of your car and the fact the DVLA have sold your data?! See this thread among HUNDREDS about Smart and TCP as talked about every single week on here and on pepipoo. No-one here actually pays them:
http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=75552
(TCP and Smart are the same company which is why I thought of Atilla's thread on pepipoo as I recalled that he posted pics of their useless piece of paper and he knows a lot about their little game - and he posts on here too).
Please just follow our advice, we know what we are talking about and would not tell you to do something we hadn't done. I have had 2 fake PCNs myself, laughed my head off and thoroughly enjoyed ignoring the whole scam (prior to the advent of POPLA). However things are even better now as people in England/Wales can use POPLA to cancel these fake PCNs and cost the scammers money to fund that appeal too!PRIVATE 'PCN'? You need to host it on tinypic or photobucket if determined to show the picture.
