Vent - Rude older woman on train

I need to get this off my chest!
I work in London and I went for a few drinks after work (soft drinks for me) so I ended up getting an 11pm train home. I was expecting the train to be virtually empty but I guess it being Friday lots of people had been out in London and it was a very busy train. On the second to last carriage everyone had placed their bags on the seats next to them, I hate it when they do that!
Anyway I asked this woman if I could sit next to her, she then sits up straight and looks at the rest of the carriage, as if wondering why I couldn't sit elsewhere. She then told me she would have nowhere to put her bag!! I was shocked! I just told her that the seats are for paying customers and I would like to sit down.
She eventually moved her bag.
I then sat down and she decided to rearrange her clothing in a fashion that made sure she was elbowing me very hard! I asked her why she was doing this and she said if i didn't like it i should sit somewhere else! I just tried to ignore her and proceeded to get my book out and try to relax.
She then leans forwards to tell her husband that I should be sitting elsewhere and basicaslly who did i think i was to sit next to her! By this point I was even more shocked so I asked her why she was being so rude, all I wanted was to sit down on my way home from work. Then her husband grabs their belongings and storms off with the woman following!
Even the rest of the people in the carriage commented on how rude she was, so its not as if I was exaggerating the situation. It was the end of a very long day, and I was feeling under the weather and this just made me want to cry
Why are people so mean!!
Oh and to top it off she ended up getting off on the same stop as me! I had to rush out of the station to avoid a confrontation!

What exactly was the woman older than? There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0

When I'm on the train and the person next to me is being inconsiderate then my iPod headphones go on, the volume is turned up and dance music is selected. It annoys me when people do that so it probably annoys them as well!

Ask her if she purchased a ticket for her handbag?0

You should have used the convenience of you both getting off at the same stop to plant your toe up her bullet hole and make off whilst laughing in a raucous fashion.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I was just mentioning the fact that it wasn't a 'youth'. I am on the young side myself and assumed sitting next to a woman who looked like she was in her late 60's would mean a comfortable journey home. I know it sounds silly but I expect people of a certain age to have more manners.0 -

I get really annoyed about people giving their bags seats on busy trains. My early morning train is usually mobbed, sometimes I can get a seat but other times I have to stand. The other week whilst I was able to get a seat, across from me a guy was sat with his sports bag up next to him and his friend opposite had her massive handbag next to her. Other people who got on at the next station stood for the journey but I don't know why they just didn't ask them to move the bags so they could sit down. I have almost sat on a passengers shopping bags because they were up on the seat, swiftly removed by them when they realised where my bum was going! There are luggage racks if you have big bags, shopping bags can be tucked under the seats and handbags can sit on your knee.
Scotrail are apparently doing something called 'Neat seats' but I have seen no evidence on my route of any Scotrail staff asking passengers to move their luggage so people can get a seat. I don't have a problem asking people to move their bags but other people don't seem able to speak up for themselves. You shouldn't be subjected to tutting and dirty looks etc by passengers in order to get a seat. I feel like saying 'is your handbag tired and had a long day standing all day at work?"0
