  • Hello, mind if I join you all? Been reading a bit but I am no good on this computer thingy. Your posts really inspire me to save, save and sort my finances out.
Did not really think about it until my sister got married and bang (!) her life is sorted pretty much...and I got to thinking about mine. Mid life crisis i guess as I turn 30 at the end of this month. Eeeeek! I have a degree, good job thankfully earning about £27k a year, no debt at all since I worked hard after uni to pay it all off. I did have a basic £2k saved but am down to £600 as the wedding cleared me out. I have no family to help me out really -no one to stay with while I save or to hand me a deposit for a house so it is just me literally. Going to start with June and get through each month. Luckily for me Kat helped me work out a budget (over tea) I can hopefully stick to.
Rent and bills work out to be £800 a month, I can save £400 and that leaves £300 left. So about £100 on food and will try to save the other £200 for emergencies. Will be pushing this when I get paid and will appreciate any support I get. Thanks everyone and the lovely Kat for all your help. x
Debt free. House deposit £75k. Oct 24 have moved to Scotland. 2025 start house purchase. Do overtime, get salary increases- to £41k then £48k

Ooooh so many posts to catch up on... Siouxsie you sound like you aren't a small insect lover... I shall join you balancing on that chair.. saw a MASSIVE spider in the bathroom the other day, knew he would be too big to squish as he would make a mess so got him with an overturned glass and chucked him out the window - URGH!!! Ants annoyed me at my old place a few years back - killing them was hugely satisfactory but I never knew where they were coming from...

Anyway... MiMi66 and DueSouthTwin2 welcome to the thread!! We would love to have you on board for Junes challenge as this one is well under way and nearly FINISHED!!!! Lurk as you would like, see what we do, see if the rules are okay with you but be warned there will be some delightful tweaks in June...

Sarah147 have you found any treasures buried deep in the boxes? Well done on the clutter but I can understand your frustrations regarding the dongle. That would wind me up something rotten.. Am I able to ask regarding bills and struggles and whats happening..?

Mrs Toast - when you say "until the end of the month" does that mean you won't be shopping AT ALL until June?

Yesterday was not an SFD - £1.75 spent on shampoo and condition. I am such a cheap skate at the minute but was going to be £0.75 each when I spotted a slightly better conditioner in Tescos with a YELLOW STICKER reduced to £1.

Went to the cinema with DueSouthTwin2 - yes we live very close to each other and purchased £1.18 for a drink and sweeties to share in there.. with £1 given to the "milk" club at work and my own milk stupidly bought this morning my £5 has gone... down to £20 for the rest of the month in my food budget...DST treated me as well which was just lovely.. Cafe Nero AND lunch... but I won't be letting her do it again. We shall be eating lentils at my house..:rotfl:

Today is an SFD though.. need to make more lentil dahl with red lentils this time as I have about 1.5KG stashed from a few months ago and my lentil soup epidemic. Treats!

Temporary crown cracked today so awaiting call back from the denistry people to get it looked at! #groan

Right back to the grind... Hope everyone is chugging along okay... not long to go and I shall be on Overtime on Sunday ( whoop! ) and scheming June's challenge. Had two more shifts for the following week confirmed for OT - so a total of 24 hours (48 hours really) of OT. Applied for every weekend in June though so fingers crossed...

    Onwards and Upwards!!

  • Morning all - I am resisting temptation - I want a nexus 10 - I had birthday money and christmas money for a kindle fire but then held out waiting for it to be launched then saw the nexus 7 but was on the debt free mission so shelved the idea. But now we are there they have brought out the nexus 10 which would have the added bonus of being able to play movies to both kids on the 10 hr drive to Scotland in August.

I dont have flash stuff - no smart phone for me etc etc - cant justify the contracts as I work from home and barely use a mobile so this would be my e reader, on the go web checker, dvd player for long journeys etc etc.

Anyway am chanting the mse mantras - I think this may be my "vitamix" . Do I grant myself it as part of it was birthday money or do I hold out and leave the cash in the car fund. I know the sensible answer :(

Anyway sfd for me today - hi to the newbes too!

    Jonsey that's a lovely find :)

Nothing to report other than dd1 found a slug in her room... And screamed the house down! Not sure how it got there which is a little worrying 1. Because I might end up with one in my room and 2. Is this a sign of something bad/wrong with the house?!

4 out of 7 extra shifts done and I am feeling it!!

Morning All! I was MIA yesterday cause I was glued to the news and MSE wouldn't let me log in! How very annoying! In my headachey tired state I hit Tescos last night mainly to grab some yellow sticker bargains.. Will be making soup tonight with the 45p vegetables and had to get oil and margarine.. Total!= £7 something. I was too tired to check the receipt but it sounded a little too much for what I picked up!

Should be another SFD today as I've packed my breakfast and lunch- bought butter in order to do some muffins with my bashed up bananas tonight.. This should see me through until payday! With £13 left of an £80 food budget I'm starting to wonder if £50 for June is a bit ambitious..

Hmm some re-jiggery might be needed and some serious planning!!

gosh, this thread has gone quiet **tumbleweed rolls past**

Siouxsie - words cannot express how much i hate spiders. One RAN OVER MY HAND whilst at work the other day. Took so much willpower not to scream and swear. Immediately instigated a clear desk policy so i can see if it comes back...

    SFD today :)
