Not good advice, Sky can and do send letters out to people that breach their T&C's in this way.
I did not give advice or recommend what the poster of the question should do - I merely stated what I did in the same situation!
This does appear to be a very pedantic thread - don't you agree!
Hooray for the SKY+ deal (which may or may not be free depending on your view point).0 -
thanks all just of the phone and sky installing sky+ this weekend free thanks for all the info0

They send out letters if you have multiroom - they check both boxes are connected frequently to stop you and a mate going halfs on a cheap subscription. If you refuse to connect they start billing you for two subs.
Policy on single boxes is that you must have a phone line at time of activation/pairing and for the first 12 months - however, it very rare that they check after the initial activation and if they do it is about 3 letter down the line before they introduce a penalty charge.
The bloke promoting sky in my local town centre today had a big poster saying NO PHONE LINE REQUIRED.
He said they dropped the requirement for phone lines a while ago as many people just have mobiles and the ONLY requirement for a phone line is interactive services such as box office or games so its not part of your 12 month contract now...0 -
Well thanks to the OP for the info! I actually cancelled Sky last week with the intention of going to Virgin - I'd rung them previously and checked that we could have it, and how much notice Virgin would want to install (48 hours) I went ahead and cancelled Sky - they offered me the earth to stay, but as my receiver hasn't been working properly for months (picture freezing) and they wanted £65 callout plus £100 for a new box, I was adamant I was cancelling.
Got back to Virgin who denied all knowledge of a 48 hour notice to install and gave me dates 3 weeks hence! I said no thanks and thought I wouldn't bother with either and just get a Freeview box.
OH said to try and book a Virgin appointment online - which I did - but got no phone call or email confirming this (this was last week).
So today I saw this thread and thought I'd have another try with Sky - OH said to ring Virgin to make sure they haven't booked an install - and they had - for 30th May - and not bothered to tell us! So would have had them billing us for a missed install - that we hadn't even booked!
So - long story short and all that (sorry to bore you all!) I've just got off the phone to Sky - the shiny new Sky+ is being installed on Friday, no charge, just whatever packages we want.
One happy customer here!:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

As people are saying thay from 1st July Sky+ would be free, I have some queries.
I am using normal sky box with 2 mixes 15 pounds a month and my 12 months contract is just over.
If I wait till 1st July, according to the info above, I would get free Sky+.What would happen to the Sky box?Would they give me a free sky+ box? Or I have to buy?
If I threaten to leave Sky now, they might offer me free Sky+ box with free installlation.Would I be able to use my old Sky box if I want to use upstairs or leave unused or they would just take it away when giving Sky+ box?
What might be the best oprion in my case please?
I am also thinking about moving to Sky Broadband Connect (already checked the availability).0 -

The old Sky box is yours. In the past dodgy installers were known to simply take them when coming to do new installs as the customer did not know any better.
A quad output LNB is used for Sky+, I think 2 of the outputs go to the Sky+ box so you have 2 spare. Simply connect some coaxial cable using f-connectors from one of the spare LNB outputs to your old Sky box and you can use it for FTA channels such as BBC, CBBC etc etc.0 -
Thanks for your info.
I did not get well with answer to the question of "If I stay till July, would they give me a free box(Sky+) automatically with free installation?".
My 12 months' contract is just over, so I could easily get 3/6 months' half price with my current package if I phone them. And if they automatically give me Sky+ box with free installation from July, I could save extra 3/6 months' charge.
Thanks anyway.0 -
By the way Thanks to the OP and other Posters for th advice.
I was just happy about Sky+ being free on my subcription from July but you lot have saved me bundles.
I today did what you said and am getting a FREE Sky+ Box and FREE installation and FREE Sky+ installed this week:D
They tried to get me to cough up £100 for the Box but I kept threatning to cancel and each time they put me on hold i got a better offer.
Thankyou0 -
HURRAH!!!!
I got the deal also - they offered me everything FREE straight away with no option to buy the equpiment etc...
QUESTION: What machine (set top box) do you think I will get???? The nice lady never mentioned anything about a refubmishment etc so I suppose I should assume its a new box?
If so what is the capacity of hard drives they give out as standard these days?0
