    Hi James

My sky Tv contract was up but I was still in a contract for sky broadband (had it less than six months) I didn't threaten to cancel as I know this wouldn't work.

The first two phone calls were unsucessful

    1. Lady said the offer wasn't available to me only new customers
    2. Guy said I could have it for £100 and no less so I said no

3rd time I rang up I spoke to a nice guy and said I am ringing about the sky + offer and he took my details and said where did you hear about it - so I said I had a leaflet (I haven't really been sent one) and read the details from the leaflet (page 1 of this post), so he said ok and arranged a time for installation.

You can only try, personally I think it is pot luck - and totally depends on who answers the phone, just hang up and try again - ohh and James put on your sweetest voice!!!!

may I ask which number you called? I called the local rate one and was told the offer was not on my account after being quizzed about the leaflet and the number i called. (i diden't go to cancellations as i knew i was in a contract). did you call the number on the leaflet?

    Most excellent!

We've been with SKY for donkey's on a family package. Phoned up, told them I was cancelling because we worked nights, got the offer of the refurb box, no monthly fee (until it becomes free anyway), free installation straight-off and they're going to basically check and service the system.

Thanks to the OP and the other helpful posters.

    Hi

I think I rang 0870404040 or it could have been 08706080431 either one of those - if one doesn't work try the other!!

Good luck - let me know if it works.

If not get your wife or girlfriend to phone women are much better at this sort of thing!! Use your flirting skills James!!

I know for a fact that Sky can immediately tell if you have received or are eligible for any mail shots or offers. Their account system seems to report any offers you are eligible for and if they are not highlighted you don't get them - a case of "The computer says no". Basically your strongest position is the out of contract / cancellation stunt as then you'll be passed to retention's who can offer more deals, however if you are in contract they understandably won't even transfer you to that department.

Interestingly I just spoke with Sky+ sales and the helpful guy told me that any customer who has been with them for six years will qualify for the Sky+ £49.00 deal - even if they are still under the terms of a new contract. Alas, I've been with them four years and still have three months of my current contract to run so nothing for me so I'll just have to wait until then before they offer me the World.

JoeyDoll, not sure of your situation but hey, well done for getting a deal as no matter how much I sweet talk them (and I'm always very personable) they really won't shift for me - as I said previously, I can't really complain as I currently don't pay the full price for my TV package.

As other posters have stated you should be able to get the deal if you are an existing customer although it may take some persistance.

I was on the £18 /month package. I am now 10% per month better off for the next 3 months plus will have a Sky+ box installed for free next Tuesday (didn't mention it would be a refurbished box but that doesn't particularly bother me). In other words the way I look at it for the reward of some persistence they are now paying me to take the box !!

What happened was I tried to do the 'threaten to cancel' yesterday but it didn't work and they processed my cancellation (however you have 30 days before this takes effect and you can always reinstate before the time is up if need be). I emailed them asking about the Sky+ deal and was given a sales number to call (can't remember number but ended in 42 42 42) . I rang this number and said my account was in cancellation but my friend had received this leaflet and I would be interested. They then gave me another number and told me to state I was interested in the Sky+ box deal - this number had a voice message saying 'this number is no longer in use'. I then rang the number from the leaflet (as per copy of leaflet posted on this thread (thanks to poster for this !) and explained again. The operator looked up my account and said she could see that I had not been sent the mailshot - I replied that no I hadn't but had seen a friends. She then put me on hold for a minute or two and came back saying she would offer me 10% off a package plus the Sky+ box free . As this was more than I had asked for I checked that this was with free installation and no monthly subscription and she confirmed that all I would pay is £16.25 for the next 3 months then £18 month thereafter.

I think it actually helped that my account was in 'cancellation' mode. I had also been with them since 2002 so we were well out of contract.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO TAKE TIME TO POST COMPETITIONS

i just called up and said my 9 year old sky box is dying and i might as well cancel.... as ive never had an offer in 9 years it would benefit me to buy a free view box... anyway.... im now having the £49 box, free delivery and no monthly charges except my normal package charge.

she said the refurbish box is free and free installation, with 3 month guarantee and 20hrs recording time OR you pay £49 as a one off fee and get free installation, 40hrs recording time, and 12 months guarantee.

ive gone for the £49 just for the guarantee and amount you can record, anyone think its the wrong option?

    thanks loops

I was told the refurb box will be a 40 hour version 2 box and the £49.00 is the 80 hour version 3 box - I was told both boxes have 12 months warrant as it's part of the 12 months contract...
I will ask the installer about it when he calls tomorrow...
