Sky will ask for your box to do a call back (the same way the software update is done through satelite). If the box doesnt phone back they will send out a warning letter telling you you are in breach of the contract... They can also stop the recording feature using this method as well..
Friends of mine have had Sky + without being connected to a phone line for almost a year now, no letters and no problems recording.0 -
Following everyone's advice on here I decided to try and get the free Sky+ as I have had Sky for 15 months so I was out of contract and waiting for a decent deal.
I called them around 8th June and cancelled, they didn't offer anything at the time.
Got a call this evening and was offered free new Sky+ box, installation and £25 credit on my account with absolutely no haggling at all.
Also, as I understand it, it's a 3 month contract only.
Thanks for alerting me on how do deal with Sky!0 -
I disconnected my phone line 10 mins after installer left - not had any problems.
I was told the same thing with my old box - had to be connected etc.. disconnected that one straight away too and had no problems for the 7 years it was there...0 -

Yes , It had that in the Sky+ flyer i recieved too, Although it also had Sky+ minimum contract 12 months.
I dont know if that meant they will charge you for the recording facility for the remainder of the contract if you decide to cancel your Sky mixes

Also when the 12 month contract ends, if you're not paying for any sky channels you have to continue paying £10 per month otherwise they will turn off the recording feature of your sky+ box.0 -
Just seen this offer last night and thought I'd missed it!
Well, phoned up this morning - they are still doing it, for how long I don't know! Same offer as everyone else, though we told there was no minimum contract on the TV, and none on the Sky+ - if we cancelled the TV we'd have to start paying £10 only if we wanted the recording facility.
Thanks very much!!!!!0 -
I called on the 18th - No luck signing up as a new customer and getting the deal.
Tried on the 20th.
Tried on the 21st, as a returning customer (we used to have sky for about 6/7 years, then cancelled about 2 years ago).
No luck any time.
I was told that there were no offers at all and never would be.
I've tried various numbers, different departments, etc but no luck.
Each operator I talked to tried to give me a bad deal. I had to tell them about deals (we is the way with Sky). The nearest I got was £99 for sky+ box and only £30 for installation (half price), which I declined.
Which sucks, since I wanted to get Sky+ for my father, his birthday was (today). I'll keep trying I guess, hoping I get through to someone who's not hard-nosed.
{I've tried the nice-nice approach, the "I know nothing about sky, please tell me about its benefits, etc, etc" and the 'look, I know most of the current deals, and I want *this* one, etc, etc', approach.
