I called on Wednesday and was offered £49 new sky+ box with £60 installation fee. Apparently this offer has been on my account since 2005??? I didn't go through to cancellations though, cos I am scared they would just say well we don't get much out of you (£15 per month) so its not worth offering anything to keep you with us!

I told her I would think about it but there is no way I am paying £60 for installation.

Had the same offer on Wed as well but with free fitting
Try again next week and hold your nerve

Just thought I'd add my experience

As a customer who's paying £37/month and out-of-contract by 3 months, I called saying I wanted to cancel with the 'not at home when i want to watch my programs' blurb. She suggested the sky+ and said she could do it for me for £49 installation with a new box. No mention of refurbed free boxes and when I asked she said that offer was limited to a week? Err don't think so. I said I'd think about it and call back.

Called back 30 mins later, a friendly chap on the phone greeted me. I said I was interested in the free refurb box the lady told me about earlier (see what I did here? haha). He said he wasn't sure if any were left, after 2 mins on hold he got back to tell me that they had one left and that i was a lucky man(!).

So in short, it took 2 phone calls but I managed to get a free refurbed box. Fitting next week..

    Result!

Thanks everyone in this topic for the advice etc.

Got a question though, are there any particular boxes to go for from the refurbed stock? The guy didn't know which box I would be getting.

its highly unlikely that you will get a refurb box, you will most likely get a new box.

Does anyone know if the new SKy+ boxes they are installing are all PVR3?
  • I have been following this thread with great interest and finally got the courage to phone today.

I got offered lots of silly 'offers' and got put through to various departments with no luck until I said how disappointed I was that all these offers only applied to returning or new customers and what did I get for loyalty. The guy said he agreed and suggested I call 08700248973 and ask them. I did this and my FREE Sky+ box is being installed FREE on Thursday!!!

Thanks to OP and to everyone else who has had no luck - DON'T GIVE UP!!

Interesting but very long winded thread! I wanted sky + to start with but wasn't prepared to pay the £10 a month charge so I just have the standard £15 package and base broadband (free!) I did try to phone up last night but was told it was £159 + £60 told her that was far too much and threatened to cancel when my contract ends, she really couldn't give a stuff and wouldn't budge. Thing is I have realised I am in credit by £45 , all due to their !!!!-ups with the broadband fees and refunds ect. I haven't actually overpaid though, do I keep quiet and ask about the sky plus at a later date when it is all sorted or do I risk the relising their mistake and get sky + now. I know when I get it I won't be able to live without it!
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly :D
  • Have just spoken to Sky asking to cancel and they have offered sky+ for only £49 but I kept pushing and she refused point blank to cancel my account...any ideas to get box for free.....I asked about refurb box but she said they didnt have any!
