This offer will eventually become saturated and they will run out of recon boxes so its more just your luck than anything else... they will now be getting wise as around 1500-2000 people have all of a sudden went nightshift and need a sky+ box.

I'd imagine with the end of the monthly charge they are going to get rid of the standard digibox, this way they can then offer new freeview customers the recording function for £10pm.

just phoned sky and got NOTHING...so i now have 30 days til i lose my sky tv! any advice? i am not prepared to lose my sky..so will definately be going back before the 30 days..but any ideas on when to phone?

When you call up, you have to select the option of "coming back to sky" i was in the same situation as you, once i found that dept they offered me the free sky+ box and free installation - i would wait till you get the confirmation that you are cancelling letter from them before calling back.

    Good luck.

Had my install yesterday. Unfortuntely the engineer we had wasn't too helpful on either the 'run the extra cable' front (told me to buy some satellite cable from Focus and connect it to the new LNB myself !) or on the 'cheap spare remote' front ("they're 20 quid - probably cheaper in Argos") but, what do you want for nothing I suppose.

Got on Amstrad box too (oh dear) and now have a slightly strange smell, a bit like that smell you get when you turn a lamp on that hasn't been on for a while. The new box seems quite cool. Is this normal ? And will it go away ? And should I be worried !?!?!?!?

what exactly did you say to them? "hi, ive cancelled sky, is there anything you can do to try and convince me to stay *cough cough* free sky+?" :D

or did you act like a fully cancelled (and now returning customer)?

Pleased to say that after cancelling sky last month, trying to get a deal, then signing back up as we wernt offered one, we decided to cancel again (not even within a week :rotfl: ).

The ole 30 day letter came through the post with a questionnairre, which we filled in saying were on shifts and its too expensive.

Today we get a phone call from a nice scottish man who offers us a free sky + box, free installation, free remote and a free new dish if needed. All for just staying on the same package we have now £37 a month (everything bar movies).

Theyre coming to fit it on Monday morning :D:T :j  :D

EDIT: Forgot to add they also put £25 on our account :)

Just had my free Sky+ fitted, engineer said it was my lucky day as I have been provided with a pvr3 instead of the pvr2 as they had run out. My question is I have my old box and would like to put it in daughters bedroom for her to use as freeview but not sure how to do it. I'm sure I saw a link somewhere on how to do it but can't seem to find it. Hope someone can help me so daughter can have a treat.
Thanks to all posters for their help in this thread for the free Sky +

I'm going to order a Sky+ box. I'm worried about whether fan is noisy.

I've seen several makes mentioned here. e.g. Thomson, Pace, Amstrad.

    Which is quietest?

Which stops the fan in standby?

Which is best or worst for any other reason?

    That's if I get new.

If I get recon, I may get a PVR 2, juding by others' comments.

What are the bad points about PVR 2 v. PVR 3?
