I called to cancel about 12 days ago, got the letter confirming it..

called up today and struggled to get anywhere, kept being told we cant do anything as your account is due to be cancelled, eventually i thought i'd try the "coming back to sky" option and almost instantly the moment i mentioned sky+ they offered me free sky+, free instalation, refurbished box with 6 month warranty on a 6 month contract... being installed this sunday.

He should have told you that you will need Satellite Cable, not standard TV Cable which is just co-ax.

    Satellite Cable is screened.

no. Any coaxial cable will do.

To be honest any wire will do - even 3 core electricd wire can be used just use two of thew three.

Absolute rubbish, it may just sort of work for a short time with varying results, but is not satisfactory for many reasons.

Do you think Sky would waste money using screened cable if they could get away with anything less?

Do not give bad advice to people if you don't know what you are talking about, it isn't helpful.

The only suitable cable is screened satellite cable.

Just joined the forums today and noticed this thread. I've been with Sky since the early 90's and thought about trying the free sky+ deal. Just a quick question before i do, will they be offering this deal for everyone come July 1?

Just added my thanks to OP.

Sky + installed yesterday by contractor (not sky van man!).

Even so he was happy enough to drop 2 new cables from my dish and leave the existing one in place which I will feed into bedroom for old sky box.

He couldn't do anything about a PVR3 box as he had been issued a PVR 2, but when he plugged it was bust, so he got a Pace PVR 3 out of van instead :j

Gave him £20 for his troubles - good fella!

To be fair to the Sky installer I was talking to, what he actually said was that we could use 'standard cables that you can pick up from Focus' and then added that we needed to get decent quality ones as the cheaper ones would just break. :)
