Sky sub contractor just left, not been so luck, he asked for £20 to put a cable for the old box, and then told me I will have to ring sky to get a card & pay £10 for subscription and I declined. He is from Eastern Europe. I asked about a pace box and he said sky does not do pace, I find that strange, he said he has got Thompson as long as it is not Amstrac, it should be OK. Apparently the box was issued in my name. Well, in that case I thought it is better to buy a freeview box at least it is portable and not so bulky. I think the tompson box looks horrible and I do not like the colour, would prefer a black one, apparently did not have a choice in that matter. Well done, for those of you who managed to get the old sky fitted for free or for a tenner.0

Upgrading is as easy as changing the HD in a PC... Just remember that doing this voids your warranty and also ... The range of hard drives that work is not really that extensive.. so its more of a hit or miss..

I've got a new 250gb Maxtor Diamond10 to go in the box. It's all moot now, as my Sky+ box blew up last night, 10 hours after being installed! Got Sky coming back today to give me another box. Sky said they won't be giving me another Amstrad! In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

Sky engineer (contractor) just came and installed my "free" Sky+ (PVR 2) and following good advice on this thread I offered him £20 to run an additional satelite cable from the dish LNB to my breakfast room - which he did.
Unfortunately when he plugged the "old" box in (in the breakfast room) the red light wouldn't turn green on the box - ie - it won't turn on
He didn't seem bothered by this and said
* these boxes don't like being switched off
and
* they are tempramental
and
* just wait one hour - switch on and everything will be fine
took the £20 and departed
needless to say after 1 hour it still won't switch on.
Is the box u/s
any advice?

Probably, just leave it switched off / unplugged overnight, then try it again tomorrow, if no green light it is probably dead.
Is it a Grundig Receiver by chance?0 -
Hey,
I'm in a 12 month contract (we got multiroom in Oct. 2006) And does that mean i don't 'qualify' for free sky +?
Thanks.the Money Saving Expert team do not moderate forums, so if you see something that shouldnt be here report it! :beer:0 -
I am a Sky + subscriber and my contract runs out on 16th june. I wanted another sky + box in another room in my house so i contacted sky to cancel so they would offer me a deal for another sky+ box. I got a new sky+ box for £49.99 i arranged installation for the multi room and was happy. When the engineers came to install the new box they said i would need a new dish as i live in flats and they couldn't work on the current dish as it is a communal one and sky didn't put it up. They told me to contact sky. I contacted sky and they said to get multiroom i would have to contact the council to get permission for a new dish. I explained to the lady that i didn't want it anymore i just wanted a refund. She told me my money would be refunded. I asked her to put me through to the cancellations department as i wanted to cancel my account ( thinking i would see what else they would offer as i got nowher with multi room). When i spoke to the lady there and explained what had happened i asked her what other deal sky would offer me to stay as a customer she just said we cannot offer deals that she would cancel my account as from 1st july. I am stuck now because i dont want my sky to be cancelled i just wanted a better deal as i am paying £43 per month for sky+ and all the channels.
Should i let it get cancelled and then sign up again? my OH thinks they will call me before the cancellation date and offer me something????
Thank you:eek:0 -
I signed up for Sky+ for £49.00 in the High St during April. After a month and half waiting for installation I discovered that my Sky+ box is not "anytime" compatible and e-mailed Sky to complain that I haven't got a latest version box even as a new customer. They have finally contacted me back to say that all £49 offers are "refurbs" and basically tough, even though I was not told this and it is NOT in my contract, should I push for a new box???
That was on top of the sales guy advising us to pay £15 for two premium channels instead of the "waste" £10 Sky+ subscription (seemed sensible at the time!) and now we have found out that the subscription is being scrapped!!!!!!!!!
Seriously thinking of canceling all together!!!!!!!!!!!!:j  :j0 -
Sky engineer's here at the moment, sortingout my tv eye for Sky+, replacing the Sky+ box that blew up and also putting the old digibox in a room upstairs. Gave me an Amstrad PVR3.In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
