I have the old PVR1 and I used a Maxtor 250GB 5400RPM that I bought for £30 out of a local PC shop a few months ago. I never fitted it as the PC I had bought it for knackered before I could install it.

To reprogram the sky remote to control the sky+ box.

The sequence is:

TV
Hold Blue+select until LED flash twice
2
Select
Sky
Now the sky remote up and down channel buttons change the channels on a sky+ box.

To revert back, enter this sequence again but press the zero button instead of "2".

I tried the way sco0ter says but that way did not work for me...
The way I got mine to work was -

1) Press TV button
2) Hold down select and yellow together until LED blinks twice.
3) Press 1
4) Press select

N.B. To revert to a SKY remote press 0 in step 3

Perhaps there are differant types of remote? But have got all three of mine to work like this and also my parents - all the buttons work sky+ in the same was as sky but without the record/playback functions -

That way works for 2 of my three old remotes. And it uses full functions when mine didnt.... Thanks for this one..

It's handy if you have kids and you don't want them recording or pausing every programme going...

Mine was installed today - got an Amstrad PVR2. According to the Sky engineer (and he was a Sky man, not a contractor), all boxes upto and including the PVR3s can be upgraded with a new HDD. Only the PVR4s (Sky HD) boxes can't be. He's coming back in a few days to resite my old box and put in TV eye (private work ).

I'm going to upgrade my box from the 40gb HDD to a 250GB hdd, as I've got a spare one. From what I've read, it's really easy to do.

Cheers for that info, 1 out of 3 remotes work, the other 2 could be older then 8 years, now we dont have to kepp running up and down stairs!!!

dam i only just did broadband with them about 3 months ago so i doubt the will update me to sky+
