Can any tell me if your ringing and trying to cancel or ringing and asking for sky +?

Well I went with the " I am phoning to cancel my Sky subscription please" they ask you why and then put you through to another department to establish why and what they can do to keep you, basically all you need to say is that as a new customer of Virgin Media you are able to get a V Box for free, hey presto they will almost certainly offer you Sky + (if you are out of the 12 month contract period).

had my freebie installed today, Pace PVR3 80gb (refurbished) :D ok for nothing, it was a contractor and i enquired about extra remotes (2) for the bedrooms and was offered them for £10 each, well happy at that :j

many many thanks to the OP and everyone elses comments that encouraged me to go for it :T :T :T

The old sky remotes can be re-programmed to work sky+.
My engineer told me they could not and sold me some cheaply but have now found out he was wrong....
They obviously dont work the recording part but ok for spares or just changing channels etc...

I was told that the newer boxes are compatible with 'Anytime' while not all of the older boxes are. That helped me decide to spend the extra money.
No harm in calling back and asking for the new kit!

Seems a bit of a waste when sky take 80GB of space from you to fill it up with stuff they think you might want to see and then delete it when they want. You have no control over it at all according to the below article

Also heres sky's FAQ for the service... Even if you opt out of the Anytime service you still dont get the space back so you are in fact paying for a sky+ box with a larger hard drive that sky is taking 80GB from and wont give it back... I get the complete 250GB of my hard drive (the new one I put in) and I will always have it as my firmware is not able to recieve the anytime service.

Also they can put on stuff from channels you dont subscribe to and you cant watch untill you upgrade.. Seems a bit much

Porridge....Just to check when you say you can get the Vbox for free is this Virgins equivalent of sky plus??......and if they ask where is the offer available?, as i can't find it on the Virgin website?

    Thanks

You are far better off phoning to cancel with the reason your box is playing up... freezing... not working - anything for them to offer you a new box to stay with them.
They will more than likely offer you the refurbished sky+ box if the reason you want to cancel is because your old sky box is no longer working and you are unwilling to pay for a replacement.

hmmm....all i did was ask for what i wanted and i was given it.

i think if you make yourself look cheap by saying "its not fair its not fair", or lying and saying "i dont have time to watch tv" then your not going to get it.

I was honest, I said I was thinking of cancelling which I was, and I mentioned that I had read on the net a few people getting sky+ box for free - i think it helped i had a joke with the advisor saying "i saw all these penny pinchers on a forum where they do anything for free stuff and will do anything or hurt anyone on the phone for personal gain" and that built a rapport with her. If she'd have said no, that would have been that, but i wouldnt beg them like i see alot of people doing here.

Just be honest, ask for it.
You originally phoned up to CANCEL!!!!!And because you got something for nothing you decided not to!!! Sounds cheap to me and YOU got what you really wanted in the end. If your not looking for bargains why are you using this website:rotfl: :

Hi there just wondered how you programme the old remotes, as we had our sky+ installed and my hubby gave the engineer £15 to fit a cable upstairs for our tv link. My hubby thinks sky+ is the dogs nuts and how did we manage without!!:T
