Just phone a moment ago. I actually did tell here the truth as my job invloves a lot of travelling and so I miss a lot of programs but maybe there have been a spate a people wanting to cancel so they are getting wise to this.
I was told by the lady in cancellations that £49 was the lowest that they could go for a Sky+ box, plus free installation and no monthly fee.
Furthermore I was told if I cancelled I would not be eligable for this "special" Sky+ box offer and tha prices could go up or down etc. (Is this true, would I no longer be eligable?) I was tempted to go for cancellation, but instead I told her I would think about it and phone back.
What I wanted the know before I do phone back is if anyone who has recieved
"£49 is the lowest we can go" line has not been able to get the £49 dropped. As I would like to know when I phone back later so I can decide whether to go ahead or cancel. If freedom is outlawed, only outlaws will have freedom.0 -
It's handy if you have kids and you don't want them recording or pausing every programme going...
kids? You must be joking! Husband is the worst culprit! He is driving me insane, he is actually finding things to do in the middle of a program so he can pause it for 5 minutes!!! Not to mention the 5 hours of total crud he has recorded just because "he can".....
On a serious note, managed to get sky+ for us, my Dad, sis in law AND friend :T0 -

Most people have been offered a refurb 20gb box for free and the new box for £49.0 -
If your sky+ box plays up, can you use the old sky one on a temporary basis, I might keep mine as a spare as hubby is lost with sky sports? Also cannot decide whether to put old sky box in my bedroom instead of freeview box which I am currently use. Does anybody know the benefits of using the old sky box to get free sat, I understand I have to pay £20 for a viewing card as opposed to having a freeview box which you could get for £30. The only benefit from using the sky box is I could record free sat whereas in freeview I cannot. Am I correct? I also think the engineer will have a job putting an extra cable in as all my cables have been done through the roof, he will not like the extra work for £10. Any views on this, please? Guess, I will decide tomorrow, hope I do not get a grumpy one. Thanks0

I had my Sky + box installed last Friday. Called yesterday to get my parents one and was also informed that all the refurbed boxes are gone and the only ones available are the £49 new boxes. I was also informed that should we really cancel, the offer of the £49 box would no longer be available. Well, my folks were pretty peeved off - they have been paying £37 for over 10 years so we went ahead and cancelled. Sure, if they want to take it out again they can at any time. I did get the impression that they guy at the end of the phone was sick and tired of listening to people asking for free Sky+. Oh well, nothing lost.....0

Upgrading is as easy as changing the HD in a PC... Just remember that doing this voids your warranty and also ... The range of hard drives that work is not really that extensive.. so its more of a hit or miss..

if your sky+ plays up you can put your old one back using any one of the two wires that will come from your dish for sky+ ( I checked this with my installer )
if you use your old box as freesat it will be the same as freeview - except you will not have E4 or more4 channels and no you cannot record freeview with it as it will not be like the sky+ it will be like your old sky but with just the free channels.
The advantages of freeview over freesat is you can move the freeview box to another room with an ariel - freesat has to have the wire from the dish.
I had freesat put in when I had Sky+ because the offer was there for free and I wanted the box around incase the sky+ box broke and I could swap it back while I waited for it to be fixed...0 -

You will also see that the SKY HD boxes CAN be upgraded with drives up to 750GB

Thanks for your reply, engineer phoned this morning and I asked him whether he has a pace box and to put one away for me. He replied he has got no idea what boxes he has got but there is one issued for me. Foreign chap, could not even understand him, waiting to see how he gets on with the installation. Guess, he will be a contractor, no freebies. Thanks for your help.0 -
