Result, followed the advice about wanting to cancel as I work shifts( permanent evenings, he he) got offered the box for £49, said I couldnt really afford it and the nice salesman said that as I was a good customer he would speak to his manager to see if he could get it for free for me. Fitting arranged for next friday. What happens to my old box, do I keep it or do they take away ?

It's your box, do not let them take it away. They probably won't try but some apparently do.
Ask them to fit it in your bedroom and offer to give them £10/20 if they do this for you. You can then use it as a freesat box (if you/the engineer don't have a spare card) and you can get all the freesat from sky channels except Channel 4,five (and other five channels) and Sky Three

    hmm... intriguing.

Please can you confirm what channels you cannot get when the old skybox is relocated upstairs. Having mine fitted on tuesday, I cannot do without channel five as I spend all the afternoon watching the films. I am currently using a freeview box. Thanks

    http://www.freesatfromsky.com/?pID=3 tv channels

    http://www.freesatfromsky.com/?pID=4 radio channels

However, I said I said in the previous post there are a few of these channels that you don't get (c4, c5, sky 3) but you can get most!

    hmm... intriguing.

Anyone got any tips on how to persuade the engineer to part with a new sky+ box or Grade A pvr3, should I ask straight out for a pvr3 when he arrives ?

From reading threads around the net, the pace pvr2 and pvr 2.5 (80gb available harddrive) are the most reliable and supposedly the best.

if you are lucky - like me - you will get a sky engineer. He gave me 2 free remotes a spare scart lead and a new dish and installed old box in bedroom for free view all at no cost on top of my free sky+.

if your unlucky - like my parents - you'll get a contractor for sky who offer nothing and try and get you to pay for things. They offered to set up old box in another room for £50 and offered spare remotes at £20 each...

if you get a nice sky chap just ask him -
  • Advice please!

Absolutely fuming! Free sky+ installation booked for 28/5 - I told them I lived in 3 story house and they said they will send two engineers. Waited in all day and one engineer turned up! He phoned sky from my house and re-arranged it for me for today (1/6) with two engineers again due to height. Waited in all day again today - at 2pm one engineer turned up again!! he said he was not informed that this was a two man job and I was to phone Sky to re-arrange and he would speak to his manager to see if someone else was free so he could do it today and manager would phone me later and then he left. i phoned sky when he had gone to complain and they say it was booked for two engineers, it was down on the jobsheet and the engineer should not have left my house without phoning them whilst I was there. They put me on hold while they spoke to engineers manager who told them all equipment was on the van (apparently i need a new dish too as I have a very old one) and It would definately have it fitted today and he would phone me back to tell me when. He didn't ring, so I phoned sky again, they put me on hold and then came back and said there was no way they could do it today after all!!! I have taken 2 days off work to have this installed, and it still hasn't been installed! Sky have offered me £30 credit on my bill as compensation. Should i accept this or do you think i should get more? I have been a customer of sky for over 15 years. I have wasted two days of my annual leave and waited in for nothing! I have posted letter first class to complain. Im reluctant to re-book as this would mean me wasting another days annual leave and there is no guarantee that this won't happen again. What do you think I should do?
