I think you should all be ashamed of yourselves. Calling that nice Mr Murdoch and telling him lies to get him to give you a new SKY + box.

I would never stoop to such depths.

Also when they come and install the reconditioned box, if it does not work complain and you might get a new one as a replacement. I did. (Damn given it away now haven't I)

Guess I better say THANK YOU to the original poster. Very useful.

I suspect though that there will be a push to offer this service free to everyone after a little while and so we may all have benefitted a little early but everyone will qualify in the not to distant future.

The engineer (well the first one) said there was a rumour that the price for Sky HD was going to half before Christmas. Now that might be interesting.
  • Is there anyway I can receive E4 and ABC1 on my sky box, I cancelled my subscription and I get it on freeview in the other room, but sky tell me its not a free channel

I've just got this offer, had sky about 5 years ago at a different address. They had to transfer me from their old system as i didn't show up on the new one, took a little while though. Got the Amstad 180 box which you can upgrade with a bigger hard drive, seems ok.

First post ever on this site - read for ages but this tip about getting FREE Sky + (which we have wanted for ages and couldn't afford) is absolutely brilliant.
I called today and initially got fobbed off, but waited 2 hours rang back direct to customer retentions and was immediately offered free installation, so on tuesday Sky + being installed FREE.
Thanks to everyone for the advice
    much appreciated

Just wanted to say a big thank you to davilown and everyone also who took time to reply and inform us all of their results. :T

My husband is really loathe to do any 'money-saving' or bartering etc but was finally swayed when I showed him all the success stories on here last night. He phoned Sky this morning and we are getting Sky+ installed next tuesday. FREE installation, free box and no extra charge a month. :j

He was on the phone for ages and kept getting put on hold. He used the standard 'working shifts' line - incidentally true! :o

The advisor recommended Sky+ and said that the monthly charge was being stopped for all customers in July. My OH said that he would be interested but that it was 'too expensive' at £99 per box and that he was looking to save money not spend any more. ;) Then he offered A grade box for £49 and free inst. but OH said it's still too much so he was put on hold again. The advisor came back and offered him the box & all for nothing! :T

    Thanks again. :).

If You Are Sill In Contract

I'm still in contract and despite multiple calls there were definitely no offers available to me on my account. The best they would offer me was £159.00 for Sky+ box and installation which I initially ordered but then cancelled as I wasn't prepared to pay top price. As a long shot I e-mailed their Customer Care Escalation Department / James Murdoch and highlighted that this seemed rather unreasonable - the long and short of it as a gesture of goodwill I've now had a free brand NEW Sky+ receiver (a lovely PACE PVR3), free installation and a senior engineer to fit it. The engineer even gave me a second Sky+ remote for free and I still remain on the discounted contract I was on.

It goes a long way keeping it polite and professional and also knowing who to e-mail (james.murdoch@bskyb.com). I didn't ask directly for an offer or whinge, I just expressed my disappointment and invited their comments on the situation and waited to see what they had to say.

TBH you can't say fairer than that, I was still under a Sky contract so thought I'd have to wait until that ended - so I'm very impressed with Sky as they have surpassed my expectations. The amount of goodwill this has yielded from myself can only reflect well on Sky itself.

PS - If anyone decides this is the route they are going to try I would probably not say "I saw someone else was offered this so why can't I have it" - best to contact them totally independently

I did it today too, called them up and told the guy that I wanted to get it turned off as I've started working different hours and I now miss my favourite programmes so there's no point in me having Sky. He asked me 'what about Sky+?' I said I can't afford to get it installed, immediately he offered to waive the installation, box and £10 monthly charge, saving me £260 this year and £120 next! :T
