Had a problem with my reception which has been getting steadily worse over the last few months (suspect it's the trees opposite). Rang Sky in the week to see if they could fix it. After a few checks they said they could arrange for an engineer to attend for £65. I said that I would get cable installed for less than that and asked to be put through to disconnections. Guy offered me the upgrade to Sky+ for £49, fix/replace dish/LNB and free subscription " as you've been a customer for 7 years".
    They're coming on monday.

this is the same as my situation. everytime i try and watch certain channels i get "no sattelite service at the moment" so i have an engineer coming out next week.

think i'll ring them tonight and say i've changed my mind, can't afford the £65 so am gonna switch to virgin who supply my BB. hopefully they'll offer the the free sky+ which'll mean i won't have to pay the £65.

if i get engonner to feed old box into another room, do i phone sky to say my other card has snapped?

    thanks

You can, but they will only de-activate the card that has " snapped " and give you a replacement, so no benefit.

    Sky aint stupid.

If we just ring and ask for a Freesat from Sky card, will they send one? (Even if there is a small charge?)

    hmm... intriguing.

Will they totally deactivate the card - or would it still be good for Freesat channels?

I have just done the Sky+ offer (genuinely as I cancelled Sky a few months back but then got the leaflet so thought what the heck for the £15 package and free Sky+). I realise I would not get all package channels on my old box upstairs, but it I "lose" my current card would I still get Freesat?

Not sure in your case, as you have actually cancelled a while back. you may get a new card and still be able to use your old ex - contract card as a Freesat Card, I guess you will only know when the Sky Installer comes.

BTW, the Freesat Card only opens up CH 4.. Ch 5 ( x 3) and Sky 3 anyway, all others don't need a card at all.

will readers please note that it is not really FREE you will be paying a monthly subsription for a SKY TV PACKAGE BUT NOT for SKY+ which you were charged EXTRA for before.
I do wish folk would read the small print cos SKY have NEVER EVER given ANYTHING awat for free, my mate was with them for 15yrs and got nothing free at all. (oh and I beleive the sky+ box you get is a grade A box (ie it may not develop as may faults as their other SKY+ boxes)

I think most people realise this.

You cant expect sky to come out to your house and install a free Sky+ box and is some cases a dish and then thats it and you dont pay a penny to sky ever.

The Sky+ fee has been removed for "All" Sky subcribers which was made clear on the first page of posts on this thread and thus why the sky+ is being reffered to as free, for subcribers.

    Umm..wrong.

I already pay for my Sky sub. That payment is staying the same. There will be no extra cost to me to have Sky+, as the box is free, as is installation and I'm not being charged a fee. So, for me, a Sky customer, Sky+ is free. Had I not bothered to call Sky, I would still be paying the same amount of money each month for my Sky sub, but would not have Sky+. The fact that there's no additional outlay for me means Sky+ is free.

I have just paid £49 with free installation for a new Sky+ box so that I can also have Sky Anytime
I had been out of contract period with a normal sky box and wasn't sure that the grade A boxes are compatible with Sky Anytime
