I think, as I already have Sky +, but still got the old box that still works that a sky freesat card would be the answer for upstairs as it means that you don't need to have multiroom or pay the subscription and can watch different channels than downstairs too.
sounds like a plan. Just wondering how I would get the box joined up to the dish. Would a sky engineer come out and do that and does anyone know how much it would cost??
Is that the answer or can someone think of anything better??
Thanks

How do I know when my contract has expired?
I've been a Sky customer for years now. I pay £53.50 each month for all the channels plus one other box in my dining room. I never watch all the channels and I'm sick and tired of all the repeats and to be quite honest, don't think it's worth that amount each month. Plus I have to fork out extra if I want to watch a movie on Sky Box office!
What's all the talk about HD - people with HD ready TVs have to pay for a special HD Box or what?
Also I'm confused - if I phone up and ask them for Sky + does this mean that I can also use the box in the Dining Room for recording too? How does that work?

here here, Thanks to millionaire for pointing this out.Millionaire wrote: »I think most people realise this.
You cant expect sky to come out to your house and install a free Sky+ box and is some cases a dish and then thats it and you dont pay a penny to sky ever.
The Sky+ fee has been removed for "All" Sky subcribers which was made clear on the first page of posts on this thread and thus why the sky+ is being reffered to as free, for subcribers.
I'm sure we've been through this conversation at least once already on this thread.30th June 2021 completely debt free…. Downsized, reduced working hours and living the dream.0 -
If you've had sky that long, you will be out of you're original 12 month contract, so should be able to get this offer. The box in the dinning room won't be replaced, just your main box. This can record/play/ record and play two different channels at once. How do I know when my contract has expired?

HD is only really useful if you have and HD ready or Full HD TV to connect too. It costs. I think, a minimum of £150 + subscriptions. Check out the Sky website for further info.30th June 2021 completely debt free…. Downsized, reduced working hours and living the dream.0 -
I would say the first, most important thing to do is to CANCEL the direct debit. If you feel you cannot get anywhere with Sky, invoke the Direct Debit guarantee. This means you can get an immediate refund from your bank - ring them up but do not accept no for an answer. You can find out more info about the guarantee HERE
This of course assumes that you pay by DD.
Mozart.
Thanks Mozart for this advice but would I have had to cancel the DD with my bank? At the time of cancelling I stupidly thought Sky would not request a payment!!. I will however contact my bank as I tried forever to get sky to reimburse me yesterday and all the guy would say is that it's been credited to my account which I now know he means to my sky account!!0 -

You could buy the appropriate satellite cable, a couple of F Connectors, and a few clips and do it yourself if you feel capable.
Nothing complicated about it.
Other than that a local Aerial Contractor could do it.;)0 -
Slightly off topic, but does anyone know how easy it is to connect a sat cable together to another? And if done properly would it affect the signal?
What I'm thinking of, is jointing a cable twice to get it to behind the tv“Pleasure of love lasts but a moment, pain of love lasts a lifetime.”0 -

You will get a slight fall in signal, but it should work OK.
You need to use 2 x " F " Connectors and a back to back connector, make sure the connections are made correctly and securely and ensure that the whole join is covered with self amalgamating tape to prevent any possible moisture ingress.
Satellite cables carry a low voltage.;)
Better to make only one join if possible.0 -

You're welcome. Just tell the bank the truth.. you might want to leave out the credit to your sky account info and just say they said they reimbursed it.

First post ever on this site - read for ages but this tip about getting FREE Sky + (which we have wanted for ages and couldn't afford) is absolutely brilliant.
I called today and initially got fobbed off, but waited 2 hours rang back direct to customer retentions and was immediately offered free installation, so on tuesday Sky + being installed FREE.
Thanks to everyone for the advice
much appreciated
