My first post - been reading the forums for long time now, but not had the courage to post myself :embarrasse, we had sky over the Xmas period on a special offer, half price for 3 months, but when it came to cancelling it was a nightmare!, several phone calls and letters managed to sort it eventually, but what I'm wondering is can I be really cheeky and phone and ask for the Sky + deal, as really would like sky again but not sure if they would be obilging! What do you think????0

Are you out of contract/out of minimun 12 month period? Go for it, you'll more than likely get it.
Good luck and let us know

I'm still in contract and despite multiple calls there were definitely no offers available to me on my account. The best they would offer me was £159.00 for Sky+ box and installation which I initially ordered but then cancelled as I wasn't prepared to pay top price. As a long shot I e-mailed their Customer Care Escalation Department / James Murdoch and highlighted that this seemed rather unreasonable - the long and short of it as a gesture of goodwill I've now had a free brand NEW Sky+ receiver (a lovely PACE PVR3), free installation and a senior engineer to fit it. The engineer even gave me a second Sky+ remote for free and I still remain on the discounted contract I was on.
It goes a long way keeping it polite and professional and also knowing who to e-mail (james.murdoch@bskyb.com). I didn't ask directly for an offer or whinge, I just expressed my disappointment and invited their comments on the situation and waited to see what they had to say.
TBH you can't say fairer than that, I was still under a Sky contract so thought I'd have to wait until that ended - so I'm very impressed with Sky as they have surpassed my expectations. The amount of goodwill this has yielded from myself can only reflect well on Sky itself.

PS - If anyone decides this is the route they are going to try I would probably not say "I saw someone else was offered this so why can't I have it" - best to contact them totally independently
Did they reply by email with their offer?

Was just installed, really nice bloke. He put the old Sky box in the bedroom without a card and I still get the BBC channels which are the ones that get watched the most anyway. I gave him £20 because he did such a good job and it's worth it.

Yes, they replied by e-mail and had already arranged the installation date and everything, they just gave me a job reference if I wished to re-arrange the date.
If you do contact them basically the Customer Care Escalation Department have the authority to apply anything to your account. I would allow at least 48 hours (working days) before you get a response. As I said my e-mail was perfectly honest and polite and I didn't demand anything, I just left the ball in their court. I really didn't expect such a excellent response and the date for installation was for a couple days later so all-in-all a top result.
Good luck

Thanks so much OP, phoned up to cancel saying I worked shifts and kept missing progs, listened to a, lets face it, pretty condescending idiot's guide spiel about how sky+ worked, (but then I suppose I did say that I had never really thought about it...;)), and was offered a totally free new box (getting £10 credit for june), it's coming on Wednesday - result!
Thanks again,
MrsB
.... now to try with Aol, I fancy some very cheap internet please...

This is my first post on here, just like to thank everyone for the info. Rang sky last monday and had my free sky+ box and installation this morning. got a refurb box but rather than the pvr2s that everyone seems to be getting i got a pvr3 amstrad refurb which only just be more or less brand new (from bein refurbed) with a date of 31/5/07 (i.e yesterday!) on the side of the box it came in. so im well pleased. thanks everyone!0
