I'm thinking about doing this as well, and use it is a freesat from sky box. I think that Sky would be happy to do this, because you could always upgrade if it's already installed.
Do we get to keep the old box? Also, is there a new card for the Sky+ box or will we need to use the same one?

If we cannot get it installed upstairs, can a sat cable be run from the LNB manually?

Don't ask SKy, just ask the engineer when he comes to install the Sky+.
If he's been or won't do it, then yes it's just a matter of connecting cable from the LNB using a normal sky screw type connection and feeding it to the bedroom box.

    Thanks everyone.

As posted earlier, my Mum was a customer 2 and a bit years ago. Finally called at lunch time, after deciding to just ask, the worst they could do is say no.

Called up and said I was aware of an offer for returning customers, gave postcode etc and was told she qualified.

    Result!

Engineer calling on Tuesday pm, don't know what type of box they're installing, hopefully new, either way I confirmed 12 month warranty.

Has anybody tried getting the engineer to put an extra cable to use the old box upstairs? A few quids were mentioned before, how much a fiver or a tenner, do not wish to offend the chap? Cup of coffee and chocies will be on offer, just hope he is not grumpy. I am going to ask casual whether he minds putting an extra cable whilst he is at it for the bedroom and see how it goes. Thanks

Yes, a friend of mine got a sky bloke who was fitting someone elses sky to pop over to his and fit a extra cable in the bedroom.

    Gave him a tenner.

No, it will not. You have to be a Sky customer - just use the cheapest package (£15/m)

    hmm... intriguing.

Afraid not, this is where " Free " doesn't actually mean Free in the Sky Dictionary, but then you wouldn't really expect anything different from them.

Phoned them up today explainging that since lost has finished and 24 is finishing i wanted to cancel. Explained that as I work a 3 shift system in week I never get to regularly catch anything in week so no point keeping it going.
Was offered free sky plus straight off the bat no quibbling, accepted, got an installation on tuesday afternoon.

    Result

    Thanks OP

    Many thanks to the OP.

I'd cancelled a while back but rang Sky said "My cousin got a leaflet" and explained I'd like the offer. No problems, installed today new box, new dish and LNB, new remote. Everything working fine, happy days!
