hmmm....all i did was ask for what i wanted and i was given it.

i think if you make yourself look cheap by saying "its not fair its not fair", or lying and saying "i dont have time to watch tv" then your not going to get it.

I was honest, I said I was thinking of cancelling which I was, and I mentioned that I had read on the net a few people getting sky+ box for free - i think it helped i had a joke with the advisor saying "i saw all these penny pinchers on a forum where they do anything for free stuff and will do anything or hurt anyone on the phone for personal gain" and that built a rapport with her. If she'd have said no, that would have been that, but i wouldnt beg them like i see alot of people doing here.

Just be honest, ask for it.

That's what i was told, you then have to say that you are unhappy with that offer and it's not really worth your while having sky at all so you want to cancel, when you get through to retentions explain that £160 is too much blah blah, you've been with them 5 years etc but it's not worth your while having sky as you don't get much of a chance to see your programs you should get an offer then. At worst they will put your cancellation through but you get a month to change your mind :)

I think I must just of got through to a tough representative, I told the truth in that I had just left University and din't have much money, and that with my part time job I missed most of the programmes I wanted to watch, to which I was just greeted with a long pause of silence! I said I can't really afford it and that I'll have to have a think about it to which he said "okay", and that was pretty much the end of the call. Will it be on their system that I've enquired about Sky+ ? I might give it another go or get someone else to call for me.

I rang, told them what I wanted and got it. I was totally up front with them - told them I'd cancel unless they gave me a free Sky+ box, installation and subscription, as I don't tend to use Sky anyway (my boy watches it mostly). They said as I am a long-time customer (talking years and years here!), I was entitled to the upgrade for free. The !!!!!!s tied me into a new 12 month contract, though! ;) Installation is next Monday (free Sky+ box, free installation and free subscription to Sky+). Just rang both my dad and my sister and told them to do the same, which they are now both in the process of doing. :D

Just been back on to get my mom back with sky and once again had no problems with the offer. She (DM) only left a couple of weeks ago after she started having trouble with her old box and they (SKY) quoted her a ridiculous fee to see to it. She is on holiday right now but will be so pleased when she gets back to find it all sorted and without costing her a penny bar the 15pm!

Called Sky back to double check a couple of things - was told that I'm getting a £49.99 box, even though I have not been charged for it. Should mean I'm getting a new box, hopefully.

mishka, surely everybody is here to get something free/discounted (ie; money saver)?
If people "dump on their own" it is because they want to be a part of the group but are "ashamed" of being money saving.

    hmm... intriguing.
