    Hi all

I'm a bit of a late comer to this thread, my mum was just about to sign up to Sky with a standard box, then I saw this.

Question is, she hasn't been with Sky for just over 2 years, does she still qualify as a returning customer?

She hasn't received this leaflet, so I guess not. Would it be worth a try calling them?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks

Why cant you? You can get the phone line stapled to your skirting boards or around door frames. the sky installer will do it. You wont even notice its there.

If you imagine my room, my tv in one corner (top left) my telephone in other (bottom left). Between top left and bottom left is an openfire place-cannot run cable by this. So is simply not practical

I've had the phoneline connected for 12 months at my old house-surely they would let me off with a sky+ box

At my parents house their tv was at the top right hand corner of the lounge, their nearest phone socket was in the kitchen..

The cable was tacked/stapled around from the sky box on to the skirting board around half the lounge past the bay windows, around the lounge door, around part of the hallway into the kitchen around the kitchen door to the phone socket on another wall.

If not you could always let them just plugg it in then remove it when its gone. :)

hey?! pls answer this, cant enjoy my sky+ until u do lol

thats the only thing i dont like about it. if you say have 10hrs of stuff kept back to watch and u want to set a load of things to record, you then need to go back and work out and add up hw much more u can record??!!

oh, and i got the AMSTRAD DRX-180 = PVR2 - 40gb. If I find its not enough, I will install a bigger hard drive. I'm guessing if I install a 160gb myself, I still wont receive sky anytime??

Be aware that Sky know who has and hasn't been sent each mail shot and generally won't allow you to use the promotional code if the system doesn't show that your address/account are eligible.

As everyone says, if you're out out contract then they generally offer you the World as long as you say the magic words "I wish to cancel". This has always worked for me (I can't remember the last time I didn't have a discount applied to my account - several years). If you're in contract then they do have you over, arguably, a justified barrel and you will be lucky to get anything (although there are ways around this, I'll post more info tomorrow when I have more time).

One thing I learned from Sky the other day is that all customers who have been with them for six years will be entitled to the discounted price, wether they are under a new twelve month contract or not (not sure if this is accurate but that was what I was told).

Just got off the phone to sky and having this installed on Saturday morning. Got through using the 01506831781 number and only took about 20mins. Spoke to a lovely lady called Laura and got put through to a guy called John who was just as helpful and even cleared an outstanding amount (their stupidity) that was on my account from when I was last with sky a couple of years ago. My DD is going to be so made up when I tell her as she virtually drools whenever the disney channel advert comes on lol

Thanks to the OP for calling attention to this great offer.

I had a bit different situation which may make NEW customers interested as well.

I had SKY back in 1999 when it was offered by an asian channel (which was moving from analogue to digital transmission) which had some kind of aggrement with SKY. I never had any subscription to any Sky channels/package, never had any customer number with Sky but always had upgraded viewing cards from them.

After reading so many messages here, this morning I called the number on flyer to see if they will honour this offer to me. Sky did not have any account info of me on their system and they even could not find it on their old system. So on two occasions, I was told that all the records which are more than 7 years old are deleted and I would be treated as new customer and was offered SKY+ for £159.

BUT when I called third time and asked the guy that I wanted to speak to supervisor about this matter, the guy put me on hold for 2-3 minutes and then told me that he would create a new account for me and will give me the same offer. The guy also confirmed that I would not be tied in to any contract as I was treated returning customer and could cancel it any time. He said I would get new box (may be PVR2 but definite with 12 months warranty).

AND I am given customer number, job reference and installation day as Friday .... I am well chuffed !!!!

OK it took me three calls and 30-40 minutes time but I got results finally.

    Hi Woodyrocks

I take it you didn't receive the leaflet. Was this questioned when you rang. If you were with sky a couple of years ago, did they just honour the deal?

I may give them a ring. Nothing ventured...
