well i just got my free sky+ box, its coming on saturday morning
thought i'd try a different approach to the "working shifts"
so when asked why i wanted to cancel i said " my video recorder has just died so i'm going to get a pvr with freeview built in" ...... no hesitation from chap on phone told me it was my lucky day!! sky+ box for £49 etc.I hummed and harred a bit said but its still costing me each month then he said it was my very lucky day and i could have the whole lot free  :T
whole thing took about 4 minutes :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
cheers :j :j :j"we don't stop playing because we get old; we get old because we stop playing."0 -
 Hi can anyone help on this, sorry if its in the wrong place.
I had a phone call asking me if I wanted this free sky+ as a previously cancelled customer. The reason I cancelled in the first place was because I couldn't get the whole see, speak surf package and I felt I should be offered something else in its place but sky didn't agree so I cancelled.
Since cancelling, they have told me that I can have thier broadband for £17.00 a month and the entertainment package for £21.00 a month but I cant have them both with free calls for £26.00 a month like other people can. They are unable to offer an explanation for this, but as far as I am concerned, surely if they can offer me broadband for £17 a month, then they can do it for £5 a month. Anyone got any suggestions as to what I can try to get it? I threatened to cancel unless they could do it but they still couldn't. They tried to entice me back with a shiny new sky+ box but still weren't willing to offer the complete package for £26. What gives?
You must live in an area with an exchange that has not yet been 'enabled'. Until that changes they'll ask £17 a month for broadband.0 -
I have been with NTL/Virgin Media for ages. I now want to change to Sky for the tv, phone and broadband.
How much for a newbie that needs everything from them.
first try and get a deal with virgin for your packages, try the "i`m thinking of leaving you, how do i go about it"
we did that, phoned up went to cancellations, we DID get rid of tv section, but on the phone/2mb bb they took our price down to £12.50 a month, for the 2, then we`ve just gone to sky on there 2-£15 package, so that beats virgins 3-£30 by £2.50 and we get a better tv selection
if you go to sky/bt, your talking about £53.50 sky (everything and 16mb BB) PLUS £11 bt so £64-65 a month unless you can get any offer0 -

Indeed, and there are far better, more reliable suppliers for that sort of money.
Your exchange may never be " enabled " by Sky, they are only interested in the masses.;)0 -

Naaah, had enough of Virgin. Also, we are footie fans and Sky has much better service and options for matches etc. Have to ring Virgin as I don't know if I have to wait til the contract is up or I can opt out of it. Thanks for the info, I'll give them a ring.A cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0 -
Just wanted to say thank you to all who have contributed to this thread as I have been wanting Sky + for ages but was loathe to pay the £160 - £99.00 they wanted in the past.
Anyway last night I went through to cancellations and was offered the free refurb box with a 12 month guarantee or a brand new box for £49.99.
I opted to pay the £49.99 as my DH hates refurb items after getting a refurb phone and having loads of problems with it.
But we are more than happy and installation is on Thursday 31st.
So Thanks again.

Success!
We finally plucked up the courage to ring and ask to cancel our Sky (we are not in contract and only pay £18 per month).
Used the excuse of changing onto shift work and the lady on the phone immediately brought up Sky+ as an option... we pointed out that the reason for the change to shift work was to earn extra money as we are poor...
First offer: £99
Second offer: £49
Third offer: FREE box but £10 per month
Fourth offer: FREE FREE FREE
We just kept saying we couldn't afford to pay out and got there in the end!
Installation booked for this Thursday (3 days time)
:T :T :T :T :T
It took some guts as I couldn't survive without Sky but it was worth it!
HTH :beer:If a post is helpful to you, please take a second to click "thanks", it makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside!0 -
Got a call last night (actually 3 silent calls and then he got through) from the engineer to book in for 8am this morning to come fit it (yawn!).
He's been, gone and everything is up and running with Sky+ working as advertised! Well chuffed.
Now I'm free to enjoy the rest of the sunny bank holiday...Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though0 -
fox, what box did you get? was it free? 40gb or 80gb?0

I've just found out about the whole Sky waiving the Sky+ £10 a month subscription deal. This sounds excellent from my point of view as I've been toying with the idea for a while now but neer really got round to it and was reluctant to increase the £43.50 that I currently pay.
As I'm still an active Sky Digital customer who will be out of contract (had the same box for the past 3 years), I'm wondering the best way to get Sky+ the chepaest way possible! I get the idea of threatening to cancel the subscription and also putting the idea of working shifts forward to get a better deal.
I don't wish to be all doom and gloom but I fear that if I try this on they'll tell me that too many people have tried this on and they cannot offer me a great deal. Has anyone had their bluff called by sky? (As you can tell I'm new to this bluff calling type thing!)
Also, is there a great deal of cables to be seen on the outside of the property? Originally I was hoping for the multiroom facility but I saw another install of Sky+ and multiroom and thought there was far too many cables visible!
Sorry to ask too many questions!Apparently I am the original tight fisted Yorkshire Man!!0
