I've just found out about the whole Sky waiving the Sky+ £10 a month subscription deal. This sounds excellent from my point of view as I've been toying with the idea for a while now but neer really got round to it and was reluctant to increase the £43.50 that I currently pay.

As I'm still an active Sky Digital customer who will be out of contract (had the same box for the past 3 years), I'm wondering the best way to get Sky+ the chepaest way possible! I get the idea of threatening to cancel the subscription and also putting the idea of working shifts forward to get a better deal.

I don't wish to be all doom and gloom but I fear that if I try this on they'll tell me that too many people have tried this on and they cannot offer me a great deal. Has anyone had their bluff called by sky? (As you can tell I'm new to this bluff calling type thing!)

Also, is there a great deal of cables to be seen on the outside of the property? Originally I was hoping for the multiroom facility but I saw another install of Sky+ and multiroom and thought there was far too many cables visible!

Sorry to ask too many questions!

SKy will have thousands of new cusotmers leaving and joining per week. So I woudlnt worry about not getting the deal.

The whole "I Work Shifts" deal is to prompt the advisor to mention the Sky+, once prompted they will start offering you it. You just have to stick to your guns that its only worthwhile not cancelling if its free.

I just got another 2 family members the deal. They even got the free brand new box as they had been with sky for3 and 4 years.

The Sky+ cable is just 2cables which come joined together so very tidy. it actually looks like one cable when i first saw it.

You've got nothing to loose to call them. You dont get anything if you dont ask;)

Just called up to say i wanted to cancel saying i'd just got a new tv with freeview and no longer needed sky, they agreed to cancellation immediately and only pausing to suggest maybe reducing my package down to 2mixes for £15pm and that was it...

anyone got any idea about how i could call them back up and get the free sky+ or is it just a case of sitting tight and waiting to see if retentions give me a call?

fox, what box did you get? was it free? 40gb or 80gb?

Yup, it was free and the 80GB (Really 160GB) one. I strongly suspect it was a refurb but it looks good as new and has presumably got the guarantee too.

Just double checked following the links below and it looks like I've got the Pace PVR2 with the 160GB (80/80) hard disk. I got the confirmation of order and installation booking on Tuesday (the day after it arrived) and it was listed as an A grade box. Works fine and we're very happy with it.

Should have said you dont get to watch the programs when you want and thats the reason your cancelling.

It always prompts the advisors to mention the Sky+ otherwise the advisor might not think off it and they go ahead with cancellation.

Then you negoitate the price with them. Ive rang three times for family and friends and all three times used this method and have got the advisor to automatically prompt the ("you can get a sky+ box) works every time.

Ring em up and tell them your friend just showed you a flier saying free sky plus.

There is a scan of it on the first page of this thread, then say if you can have that deal you wont cancel. should do it.

All depends if you are still in contract. If your contract has finished then you've got more bargaining power.

Seems that people that can cancel because they are no longer in contract or returning customers are getting the offers but others are being refused as sky have you tied to a contract.
