you dont know that the 50k is still sitting in the bank. they may have bought a property. the OP is on maternity leave and you have no idea id her partner is on a low wage or if the father is even working.
im not saying that is the case.... but people are so quick to come to their own conclusions without actually knowing the facts0 -
Why would any responsible daughter allow her mother, who claims benefits, to support her child for months at a time?
there you go again...
wgo said MONTHS at a time?
no one ... its a figment of your inagination.
she always asks if i want money and i always say no because i save for when he is here.
what decent grandmopther doesnt buy a few extras for when her grandkids come to saty?0 -

Even non working fathers are expected to pay £5 pw towards a child's upkeep and, in this case, the father is receiving child related benefits for the son.0 -
and so should mothers who are the NRP. clearly the OP didnt pay maintenance for her son or she would have that money to spend on the boy.
theres somnething else for you to criticse her for.
suprised you didnt think of it yourself0 -

I apologise, I typed months rather than weeks by mistake.
However, the point still stands, when someone else is feeding and keeping a child (whether a grandparent or NRP) at the very least the child related benefits would normally be handed over, particularly if the other person was living on a very limited income.0 -

no im being facetious,
my daughter sends my grandson with money for trips... and he is veru responsible, he pays for himself without having to be prompted.
he costs next to nothing to feed as he eats the same food as i do ... nothing processed, and he helps to make it as well.
cam imagine your grandchildren love coming to stay with you if you want to raid their piggy banks0 -

When we go and stay with my parents I don't offer money for us staying - we stay (DS and me) for about 10 days over Christmas / New Year, and about a fortnight spread over the rest of the year, long weekends over bank holidays, Easter, etc. OH stays about a third to a half of the time we do per year.
I know my parents would be offended if I offered them money for board and lodging, so I don't. They have plenty of money anyway, so it's not a question of taking things away.
But of course I always buy my mother some flowers, and take some nice olives, cheese, etc as a small present to say we appreciate it....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
She had 50K 2 weeks ago and was only *thinking* of putting an offer and a deposit down on a loan for a house.
I doubt she has made an offer, been accepted, arranged a loan and reached completion on the house purchase so quickly.
Even someone buying a house at auction with cash would have difficulty completing within 2 weeks.
She can easily hold back £200 to support him for 6 weeks.
And if she can't, he can return to his father who is still eligible to get CB until the course finishes and he can live there for the 6 weeks. his father has supported him all these months/years so an extra 2 months aint going to make any difference.0 -
i didnt realise it was recent as that as im not in the habit of trawling peoples past posts.
as i said before, i really dont think it is any hardship for her to support her son for 8 weeks ....
the readiness with which some posters like to 'jump' on people leaves a nasty taste in my mouth0
