JSA is £57 pw, minus CB of £13 equals £44 so we're talking about a grand total (even without the father's contribution) of £264. So, as I said, a lot of fuss about nothing.

Less Dunroamin because he is the eldest child CHB is £20.10 so £38.90 per week
    less then £200
    Sad :(

This makes me think of SDP and how many eighteen years olds have to leave home because its stops entitlement if the CHB has run out

I know its a lot of money but if you cant support your own child for six weeks then what hope is there? to be honest.

Hopefully the young lad can get a job soon I hope so for his sake

i agree and i said in a previous post that she should be able to support him for 6 weeks.

i obhected to dunroamin saying £254 is nothing ... when many people are living on less than a third of that a week

Regardless of the 50k plus the fact the OP has posted about recieving a 50% share of ex homes sale.....she is NOT ONLY in reciept of Maternity Benefits as she lives with her new partner.....

She needs to check as I stated wether Dad is still recieving CB,
if he is then come to a agreement where Dad would give this money to son to help out, or mybe give a little financial help for a short while along with OP until the son is able to claim JSA, ....If not then I'm afraid its a case of having to grin and bear it for a few weeks......like many of us have had to do when our children have been in similar situations.......their our children, and not many of us CAN afford to help them financially...even in a small way...but somehow we manage/managed.

I too know what its like to be skint....but skint in my case is down to my last £1.....no savings, credit cards etc., to fall back on.

I was a single mum many years ago and had to rely on benefits for a while until I was able to find work....so I understand how difficult things can be.....but somehow....we managed!

I agree with the general consensus, that even if not able to get JSA at £57 a week for 6 weeks it's not the end of the world they have a 2 adult household and a baby and all they need to do is feed an extra 18 year old.

To do this they can get father to hand over the CB 4 week run on
They can -I'm sure- dip into their £50,000 nest egg, that post is only 2 weeks old I'm sure they have not yet signed their £50000 away and they could reduce it to a deposit of £49,800.
I also doubt that £50000 is all the savings they have, I mean you don't put all your savings onto a mortgage do you? You hold some back for a rainy day.

She only "needs" £200, with savings of that magnitude I'm sure it is possible.

It's a sad day when people with means ask what support they get to allow their child home.

There are people who would live on beans on toast for years if they had their children at home or able to have a child

Others ask what benefits there are

Very sad indeed, welfare state at best!

my grandson stays with me regularly ... for weeks at a time during the summer. i wouldnt dream of asking my daughter for money to feed him ( she does send him with money for if i take him out anywhere though)

now someone will say my benefits are too generous because i can afford tyo feed a 9 year old as well as myself .... i save up for it though!
god i shouldnt be allowed to save anything either should i? ;)

I never said that £254 is nothing but it isn't a great deal of money when there are 3 adults involved, £50,000 in the bank and it's spread over 6 weeks!

Just because you live on benefits doesn't mean that you should apply the same financial criteria to everyone.
