No mention of people keeping their lifestyles within their earnings though.
No or low paid job and 4 kids is ridiculous.0 -

Canny voters with access to social media won't be caught out by this. They will recognise that Labour aren't actually committing to this as a policy and that it will never be implemented because Labour spent 13 years in power during which their key policy was not to introduce a living wage because their rich mates in business didn't want them to - instead they introduced a low minimum wage but bribed voters with tax credits and housing benefit.
Canny voters remember that Ed Milliband was a minister in that government...0 -

I expect if you are a champagne socialist and only shop in Waitrose you wouldn't know about this though.0 -

Shadow Cabinet is dominated by the Brownites from the previous Government. So hardly surprising they are following the same model. Albeit in a different guise.0 -

Or maybe you know better than the IMF?
That may well be likely, seeing as how the head of the IMF, Mdme Legarde, is a lawyer.
Her own organisation's figures show that they predict greater growth in the UK in 2013/14 than in France, Germany, or most other Western European economies.
Maybe it is you who should stop peddling outdated and debunked lines of argument.....

I don't know what high end "Toff" place you shop at DLW but I can find tinned kidney beans for considerably less than 75p per tin....
My last job was in charge of the catering on one of Her Majesty's finest warships...the daily allowance per man onboard for purchasing food was £2.46 (less than criminals and hospital patients get!). Anything is possible with a bit of thought; you only have to look at the food budget obsessives on the Old Style moneysaving board who have got entire monthly shopping bills down to tiny figures to see that.....

Doesn't take much to resort to type.
Where were you when the GDP figures got published?
Hiding some where I suspect. As the Labour spin machine had nothing to say. Even this story isn't new. It's a rehash of something from 6 months ago.
Shows the void in policy. As this does nothing to add to the current debate. Let's talk about wage structure once we know what the country can afford. There might be a very different UK once the deficit is eradicated. Committing all employers to even higher minimum wage levels may result in yet more flexible working contracts and part time jobs. Something Labour constantly deride. Yet with the minimum wage created the outcome we have today themselves.0 -

'The independent thinktank the Institute for Fiscal Studies has calculated that for every pound spent paying the living wage, the Treasury saves 50p through not needing to pay tax credits and benefits.'
The eonomy needs the Treasury to benefit - great idea to share some of the responibility with firms and councils - rewarding those that expect their sub contractors to pay a bit more for quality staff?
So if a local council pays more either directly or indirectly through a contractor who pays for that? Do the council have a magic piggy bank or do they simply load council tax to which Joe Public have to pay.
So the treasury saves and we pay more.
Poundland starts paying a living wage , they need to make a profit to stay in business it now becomes "a pound and twenty pence" store.DecentLivingWage wrote: »tinned kidney beans as an ingredient (they cost at least 75p per tin!!! so no good for those living alone on less than a living wage, wastage would defeat the object and be uneconomical)

Where do shop Fortnum & Mason?
They are only 69p in Waitrose.
Probably about 30p in Aldi/Lidl. Actually available from 27p in Asda.
Haven't you heard of cooking a larger quantity and using it for two meals or simply putting the surplus in a tub in the fridge to use a couple of days later. Most food stuffs can be used in a variety of ways. Kidney Beans don' just = chilli.
Of course many "toffs" don't live in reality they don't have to."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
