Labour's Living Wage Plan will be in manifesto - let's see what effect it has on voter intentions!

    .

It will make this voter ask questions. Why take money away from people on the minimum 'living wage' by taxing them? Should people receive more in benefits from the state than the 'living wage' that ordinary working people earn?

The rational consequences of the implementation of a living wage are an equivalent cap on pensions and benefits and an increase in the personal allowance.

You're such a nasty piece of work, DLW. I just wonder how you live with your conscience. So many lies. You appear to represent the Labour party - but how do you reconcile your vile falsehoods with the noble aims of the original party? Why do you feel that there is so little substance to the current Labour party that you need to feed this rubbish to the 11 or 12 people who regularly watch this Board? Do you feel that we will suddenly vote Labour through your posts? I just don't see what you get out of all of this.

I just don't see what you get out of all of this.

Our ancestors fought for the right to free speech. DLW is entitled to express views. That's what the forum is for. Good debate is healthy. As somewhere in the middle. Compromise always wins.
  • The effect will be zero as it won't be implemented. We can't rely on polls and surveys as you have explained to us on previous threads when the outcome (labour's 2009/10 vat cut failed to stimulate the economy) didn't show what you wanted it to.

Labours Lead up again - will be 9 tomorrow, steadily ticking back up (You Gov) and Living Wage plan going down well today on doorsteps - people hoping it will lift spending power and less burden on Treasury.

Oh and that's before tonight's Eton Mess and return of PlebGate!!

Sorry but canny, savvy voters don't agree with your right wing nonsense. They have logged into LinkedIn today so they can't be fooled.

HB benefit pay outs doubled under the previous administration. So an area of expenditure. That hasn't been addressed yet.

However it won't be addressed if PP of £1 declines, and as such, more is being paid out in benefit with nothing to replace it unless we raise taxes.
Closer to home, Germany has no minimum wage at all. Nor does Spain.

So while the policy has merits. Does nothing for the current debate. If anything is a diversion from the tough decisions that need to be made.

Nor do Italy, Russia or Georgia, the latter of which a small (but growing) part of our company is based.

The issue with living wage is that employers will be forced to either employ in the UK at £1800 a month, or choose another country (Georgia's the one I know most about the economy, so this is the one I'm using here) at £3-400 a month, plus cheap-ish office costs.

The issue is that there are large numbers of qualified graduates with good attitudes to work abroad, on much less money, where living costs are cheaper. I can quite easily see a number of call centres etc being moved to India, Eurasia etc if they become impossibly expensive to operate.

they suggested tinned kidney beans as an ingredient (they cost at least 75p per tin!!! so no good for those living alone on less than a living wage, wastage would defeat the object and be uneconomical)

    75p??

You must do your shopping at the same stores as millionaires Balls and Milliband (and the rest of the Labour millionaire front bench).

    29p in Asda.
    21p in Tesco.
    21p in Sainsbury.

    There you go, massive savings.

  • Cant get to those places, like many more not on Living Wage - have top walk to nearest/only one available - Co Op! 75p!!

Many councils have already adopted the Living Wage - I like the idea of using sub contractors who pledge to do the same.

If you don't pay council tax then you probably can't care less.

If you do aren't you bothered that your council tax will be increased to pay for it?

Look on the bright side at least they are probably "ethical" beans. Grown where "fair wages" are paid.

Why are you lecturing me, Thrugelmir? I know all this, I know history, and I've lived in a couple of countries where there was no right to free speech.

I still do not understand why DLW spends so much energy on a board where, when I posted last night, there were 4 people viewing, and at the moment, 11. The comments to her post were that what she was saying were lies and misinformation.

I myself follow YouGov so know that Generali was correct in saying that the lead is now bouncing around 8/9 points.

I have nowhere said that DLW shouldn't post, just asking WHY? What does she get out of it, and using my right of free speech to tell her that she's a nasty piece of work, always giving out this misinformation.

So, lecture on, but as they say in Parliament - I'll take no lectures from you. So patronising.
