  • Glad you're OK now...but I think I maybe should have gone a little further - when I say "abolished", I mean that the money being held in private practise would be given to the NHS - in effect, they would be merged.

In other words, in my world, the NHS would have been able to treat you :)

It cannot treat everyone. There is not an unlimited pot capable of treat everyone for everything. There is not the money to put to everything. My healthcare all that time ago was in private practise but the expertise was sought in US iirc. Having experienced healthcare in other countries the NhS, while still something to be proud of for what it is, an all encompassing, is not a system I consider the best I have experienced.

Personally a lot that the nhs treats I think should be private. :D

I have no issue with, in this example, parents seeking a private alternative to the mr if its going to help slow, stop or prevent further epidemic. That doesn't mean I think everyone should have to pay more to fund that choice. There are lots of equivalents in other areas of healthcare.
  • Yeah I do see your point there.

Cosmetic and other unnecessary procedures - pay for them.

Anything that will save a life - NHS.

I completely know that it's not that simple, but I wish for a place and time where it is! :D

There's so many MMR threads on MSE at the moment! It's a very polarising subject.

Unless you're a nurse or are involved in nurse education, please don't make assumptions, because you're wrong.

I'm not wrong at all. No part of a nurses job or training is to review scientific journals. In fact within much of the medical field this is a very specialised role, even within the actual trials conducted by the pharmaceutical industry and various regulating bodies.

It's the reason why you get a science scare story in the papers every other month. They see a headline grabbing snippet of information, but lack the scientific knowledge and review skills to investigate that information to uncover the relevance to the study and subject.

I wonder how many of the people in Swansea (and elsewhere) who have previously refused the MMR jab because it is "3 vaccines in one", have already had their children immunised from the ages of 8 weeks onwards with the diptheria, tetanus, polio, pertussis and Hib vaccine? (Or "5-in-1" as it is commonly known.)

I don't recall reading any posts from anyone who has refused those!

If a tabloid posted the adverse events findings for a common over the counter drug like ibuprofen or co-codamol then half the population would never take a pill for a headache or pain ever again! That's the issue when people attach emotions to something and don't look at the logical scientific facts behind the findings.

Let's face it penicillin was one of the greatest discoveries in modern medicine. One possible adverse reaction to that drug is death.

The single vaccines are equally safe to the mmr, they are the same thing, manufactured by the same company, used in many countries and used in this country for many years before they combined the three into the mmr. Available through private hospitals, private GP services.

I trained as an adult RN in 1992, did a child health diploma in 2000 and a nursing degree in 2005. I reviewed scientific papers and research in every one of those courses.

I'm sure you'll be told you know nothing about research though, unfortunately that doesn't get me off the hook of revising for my next exam which involves critiquing three RCTs! :rotfl:
