It sounds to me like your drink was spiked, but I think you will have a job proving it and you will have to pay up.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670

People so harsh. Best lesson is dont take a high limit card out with you when drinking
Think I'll note that one down myself, I dont see anything exceptional.
There are some cards that will limit spending to a few hundred, most often I hear this recommended for a hire car. In that case it stops them charging thousands without even asking because 'you hired it, you pay'
Ask on the forum what is the best low limit card, some of them have great cashback but I forget which.
This is a classic scam, theres dozens of these places in soho where a drink costs 20 and somehow you can end up buying the whole bar a round.
I dont know if you can appeal. I heard a case in China where a British businessman was charged several thousand pounds for his friends noodles. Think he won eventually0 -

Drunk people getting kicked out of bars isn't going to solve the problem you're in right now.
I have often use my credit cards in restaurants and bars while intoxicated. I may regret it the next morning but at the time of the transaction I try to focus up and make sure I know the amount that I am authorising and never let my card out of my sight.
Unfortunately this is just another horror story that I've heard about strip clubs ripping people off.0 -

Given that he can't remember going there, that would imply that, if anyone had spiked his drink, it happened before he even got there. Don't you think his friends would have noticed? And if his drink had been spiked, how did they get his pin number?0 -
Your mates dont really sound like mates if they let you get that drunk and spend a sum of money like that.
I dont actually know the PIN numbers to any of my credit cards and if I go out I take a debit card with me.
Im actually sorry for you in the respect that you go out on one night and end up with almost 5 grands worth of debt.
I dont know what else to say really, a bit stunned that someone could rack up a debt like that on a night out. My nights out cost me £10-20 tops.0 -
Ah, your mates left earlier on and left you to it.0

You don't have to have had your drink spiked to wake up with a blank mind, trust me....
Saying that, people are being pretty harsh, presumably in his (very) drunken state he had no idea how huge the bill was getting,
its not a nice situation and a very hard lesson learned for the op.0 -
Hi and ouch, what a night to remember!!! I've just had a thought that may or may not help your predicament.
I may be wrong but if you aren't a regular spender on that card as you said you weren't then surely the card issuer should have either blocked recurring (and expensive) transactions if they aren't a regular thing or at least tried to call you?
I know that 2 of mine (Virgin and Santander) will try to contact me if I have any irregular spending patterns and if they can't get hold of me then they put a temp hold on the card. (As I found out to my annoyance once, although I understand why they did it!)
It may help you in your defence? Good luck0 -

YOU chose to go out.
YOU chose to drink.
YOU chose to take your credit card.
YOU are responsible. Noone else.
Sorry if this isn't very sympathetic, but it really riles me when people won't take responsibility for their own actions. What will your verse be?
