I sent a letter to halifax on 31.3.07 recorded delivery. They signed for it on 3.4.07. Rang them on 18.5.07 nd was advised that they would be requesting my details and i should have the info shortly (i received a DSAR number from the lady i spoke to).
40 working days is up on 29.5.07 so rang again yesterday (0845 72 53 519) and was advised they have never received my request. When i advised of a DSAR number she said she had never heard of DSAR number. They would put in a further request but that would take another 8 weeks.Told them that wasnt good enough and they replied it was the only thing they could do!!!!!!
I think they are giving me the run around
Think i am going to go into my branch and complain with the proof that they have received my original letter
Any advice would be appreciated as i am a newbie at this and cant even get past the first hurdle
I had the exact same thing - ring them again and tell them if you don't get your statements/bank charges you will report them to the information comissioner - worked for me - went from 8 weeks to "i'll print them off now for you and put them in tonights post", arrived 2 days later! :j
to be honest, I think it depends on who you get on the phone - definitely don't be fobbed off tho - good luck!Official DFW Nerd no: 563 - Proud to be dealing with my debts:j0 -
Still waiting for statements to arrive - sent the request letter at end of March and still no sign of them! Several phone calls to them later, but tend to get cut off after 30 minutes - so debt mounting up again and again0

Has anyone had luck with the Halifax? i.e. they have their money back?! Doesn't sound too promising on here.
Im a student, just finishing final year now. Have the full £2,100 student overdraft which is to be reviewed in August. Don't have a student loan so this is my only debt. Want to claim back my charges which I reckon will only be around £250-350 but have all the statements kept so wont take me long to go through them but that £250 would certainly help clear the overdraft! Worth trying?!0 -

I sent SEVEN letters (seven different accounts) off, each with a cheque for £10, requesting my bank statements.
<b>Was I supposed to send them recorded delivery at this stage or not?</b>
Two of the cheques were cashed last week, but I have not heard anything yet.

I hope you didn't send 7 different cheques to the same bank?
The £10 is per bank, not per account.
It isn't compulsory to use recorded delivery, but if you had you could have proven when they received it.Hamsters have no tact and diplomacy, nor do they want any.0 -

I went into my branch yesterday and spoke to a really helpful assisstant. Explained that the head ofice in trinity road ,west yorks (which is where i sent my letter)must have got the letter as they had signed for it. She rang someone in the customer service section and after a lengthy phone call she had the charges emailed by the person she spoke to and she gave me a print off of my charges.I am now going to cancel my cheque £10.00as lost in post (as they have never received my letter!!!!) so it hasnt actually cost me anything to obtain the information
She also gave me this advice dont know if its correct or not but may be useful for some.At the moment she said Halifax are receiving 2000 requests per day for access requests relating to charges. She said that people didnt actually need to do a SAR request. She said if i had gone to the branch and paid £5.00 they would have requested the statements for me.She also stated that she had been told that Halifax had spoken to the information commissioner as they are unable to meet the 40 day deadline for SAR requests due to the amount they are recieving and that they have been advised they will be given some leeway.
Just going to send my first letter saying i want them back. However if it got to the court stage would i need to know what the charges were for i.e bouncing cheque, unathorised overdraft etc as at present i only have a list of my charges but not what they relate to.0 -
We requested info about bank charges for the last 6 years. They have returned charges for only last 3 years, saying that pre-2004 charges will be sent under 'separate cover'.Is this a stalling tactic? What should we do? Continue with the claim, or wait to see if the rest of the charges info comes through?0

I'd say give them a week max...then ring 08457 25 35 19 this is 'Customer Service' and tell them you're carrying on with your claim regardless, but it would look loads better for them if they got your statements out ASAP...could they be e-mailed directly to your local branch?;)0 -
I've just had my rejection letter the day after I sent my first letter...VERY QUICK!
How do I word the phone call - 'give me my effing money!' ?0 -
My 40 day statement request is due up next week, and I have a feeling that this date will come and go without any statements being sent. £10 CHQ still not cashed.
Any advice on contact numbers? I am unable to go in to branch due to working hours.
Many Thanks
