  • Month 27, Day 16. I seem to be in a no mans land at the moment date wise. I am so close to being 2 years to debt free and yet feel miles away. I have spoken with my husband and while we will pay extra towards the debts once the house is rented we will work on our quality of life a little, allowing ourselves some nice things and building up an emergency fund for both houses. I think once we have had a nice Christmas we will be keen to be rid of empty outgoings and will have an additional 250 pounds to throw at it and thats without the additional rent money - which we need to save. I just am a little hard on myself at times.

Last night I ventured into potato city, land of the tubers and all that. I have lifted the last of my midcrop and have some lates to lift September/ October and some in an old dustbin which I have earthed up to lift in November. I have some turnips in potato city now, (turnip town) and some beetroot (Beet Street) and some Onions for which I cant find a town name and all the above where previously in pots waiting to be transplanted.

I replanted my Kale and Swiss Chard which is due to be ready at the end of September, as my kitten who recently has started going out used those large planters as a scratty tray. Jokes of Swiss chod all round! I also planted some spring onion seeds, and checked on the progress of my radish in the radish nursery. Some are getting large and can go into some bigger pots.

My garlic which I popped in the ground has sprouted into mini garlic. I need these to over winter and have potted them ready for that. They will be ready late spring.

I have discovered a love of growing veggies thanks to my potatoes. I have my blooms and I love my anenomes and cala lilies but there is nothing so satisfying as eating what you grow in the ground. I have negotiated with my husband for potato city to be a permanant addition to our garden as it provides so much food and so much pleasure. I shall pop a little picket fence round it and mulch it up for the winter and get the soil even nicer.

Right back to the bottom lline - 13 days to payday. 7 days to work til more jolibobs. 5 days to Child Benefit. Ebay sales are standing at 20.48. I can do this. I can get debt free and I can do it in less than the time stated above and still have a better life. Just need to be smart.

Quoting to preserve for all eternity :D

    :T to ebay!!!

Would love to be able to grow our own veg! My dad started a small veg plot on his farm a few years ago. It's now the size of a field!! The taste is far superior to bought stuff, organic or otherwise!

  • Month 27, day 17 Another busy evening at Skint Towers- I planted out some radish and set some new ones away - planted some more spring onions and looked at my gladioli - with trepidation. I am sure they are cross bred with triffids. At well over three feet tall and the spears launching ever skyward, I am really hopeful of some pretty blooms.

Yesterday I treated myself to some medium sized bamboo garden hoops. I have used these to prop up my buddleia (sp) and prevent the foiliage getting us soaked as we walk up the path. My border is pretty busy and I am looking forward to clearing it down before the winter and digging up my bulbs and of course mulching it :) There is a long way to go yet.

I collected some seed pods from my pansies and have set those away in a large terracotta plant pot and they are sprouting beautifully. I am hopefully going to have some money neutral hanging baskets full of pansies over the winter. As long as all goes ok.

I have a plan for a shady area of my border which is currently occupied by some lemon mint. I am going to move that into a pot and pop a climber on there I think. Will investigate shady climbers. I put my chili plants outside for some sunshine and hope that more flowers will come. Chilli tastic.

I also packaged some ebay and I also did some washing. ONwards and Upwards!

  • I love reading everyone's stories about growing veg & fruit on here :) it wills me on to save for a house with a bigger garden. Have always loved gardening but I usually went for the flowery variety, now i'm an MSE convert my next big garden (and you mark my words I will get one ;) ) will be full of things to eat :) The patch of grass we have atm is around 6ft by 6ft and it's the only bit the kids can play on so i'd feel awful taking it to try and grow something which probably wouldn't take as the soil isn't great here and we have hardly any sun....so i'll just keep reading yours, piq's & brizzles (amongst others) adventures till I can join you one day :) xx
