For what its worth I would say get the £1750 back, in cash, THEN appeal the MOT and tell VOSA where the car is then !!

    Best of several worlds:

Daughter gets most of money back
Daughter (hopefully) has learnt a hard but not life changing expensive lesson
VOSA investigate MOT and issuer hopefully suffers!

EDIT - just seen the picture. 1st response - hope she was insured for non -standard wheels!

Plus the pump tints, rear lights, drain pipe exhaust, window deflectors although I wonder what lap time in managed at the ring - note the sticker on the boot.

Apart from that your advice at this stage is pretty much spot on.

Do they all need special insurance too?

Yes your right about learning a hard expensive lesson......well i hope she has. I'm so disappointed in her.

I said I'd go with her to make sure they sort the money, nope she doesn't want me to in case i kick of! I think kick of might have been an understatement :rotfl:.

Have you called VOSA yet to log the suspect MOT and writen the letter of rejection as TS said or have you decided to take the money less the (undisclosed) 'fee'?

    Vaio.
It looks like shes getting a refund minus fees of £250.
As they need car back, i'm thinking for her to take it straight to the garage when it gets picked up and leave it outside?

I'd be getting VOSA involved, I'd certainly not be giving the car back to the garage unless I had my cash back.

If she doesn't want to get VOSA involved then get the garage to collect it WHEN they bring her cash back

Yes Vaio thats what I'd do personally but as some of you may know, teens (19) know what best to do!
It's £90 for the pick up truck from MK to Dunstable.

I thought the head gasket had gone from the coolant leak? She wont (should not) be driving it round in that condition. It should be parked up and only taken to the garage in exchange for the cash back.

Oh and as this is the fastest option of getting her money back to go get new car that's also why she's taken it.
