    Don't forget:

They will know perfectly well that she's having to tow this car back to them.

Once she gets there she's entirely at their mercy when, for some reason, they can't do the bank transfer because she'll either have to leave the car anyway or else pay more to get it towed away again.

This is exactly the sort of reason why going through VOSA for the MOT issues, then TS once the dodgy MOT is established, was the smart way to play it.

Don't say she hasn't been warned when it all goes (even more) pear shaped trying to deal directly with people like this!

OP I wish your daughter would listen to the sound advice given on here.

I have a feeling that if she turns up with the car on a tow truck, it is not going to end well

No problem, and I hope it doesn't come across as banging on at you.

Got a (recently ex-) teenage daughter ourselves and know exactly what it can be like trying to help them to sort out problems that their own, shall we say, "youthful enthusiasm" have created in the first place!

Including the way that, while it's the most vitally disasterous thing in their (and therefore everyone around them's) world, every sensible suggestion about how to deal with it "can't be done because....." ;)
  • It's probably a good thing this happened.

The ad says "ANGEL EYE HEADLIGHTS, AFTERBURNER REAR LIGHTS, ALLOY WHEELS, RED CALIPERS, CARBON INTAKE KIT, SPORTS EXHAUST SYSTEM, ST SPOILER, TINTED WINDOWS ETC! VERY WELL MODIFIED CAR WITH LOTS MORE BITS AND PIECES, A REAL BARGAIN FOR THE PRICE! "

That's a lot of mods, if not declared the insurers are not going to like it. If declared you can add at least a few hundred to the premium and a limited number of insurers who will take you (under 25).

And I love the way that cat d is included, all in lower case, amongst the list of features, right after 'Immobiliser'. Almost as if they were trying to hide it. Have to say I missed it on first reading.

  • al those mods and not even declaired, she knew it was modded by the looks and adverts, so no getting round that.

i would guestimate the policy cost to be around 7-10k per annum, with 1.5k-2.5k excess with young drivers excess, inexperienced drivers excess compulsory excess and voluntary excess, high risk factors, and lack of extra security features such as tracker or thatchem alarm or mobly.

not only that because they maybe undeclaired, in the event of an accident she would have voided her policy, lost all her premium payments, be liable for any compensation claims,be liable for any costs incured to the insurers such as third party hire car third party car repair costs or total loss costs, have to declair to future insurers she had a policy voided, and declair that she has been involced in an accident.

in one way im glad she is unable to drive the car anyfurther due to prabablities of her having a crash, and pushing yours an i premiums up and making statistics very real to home.

im shocked YOU havent taken the bull by the horns and reported the cars MOT to VOSA yourself, Took the KEYS off of her, and followed the very sound advice from this thread, your giving back a death trap yes a potential death trap for someone else to drive, perhaps the next person will have kids, perhaps then next one will be the same age as your daughter and end up in the papers in the arbituaries.

TBH im lost for words, you speak about your daughter not listening yet you havent listened or acknowladged anything in this thread.
if my daughter didnt take the seriousness of this case seriously and i were in your shoes, i would stop tecting her, stop advising her and start following the advice in this thread to the T, and stop her making any contact with the garage, eventhough 19 still very inexperineced and if i were in your shoes, would make her listen to the bigger picture instead of going allong for a roundabout ride its about time you told HER how its going to go down instead of her telling YOU.

Not sure I would agree with such a high estimate, I used to be into the 'modding' scene and found my insurance was actually a lot lower with the cars modded, through specialist companies like Chris Knott and Adrian Flux. I remember paying £265 on one policy when I was 25ish.
