  • Hubby's had a rotten sore throat and he's had four teaspoons since I bought it the other day and it seems to have helped, saying that as a pharmacist I also know a virus has a time scale it runs too so maybe its just he's better any way.
Defiantly found it nicer on toast than neat or in hot water.

You can get 250g jars of 10+ manuka in Aldi now. I think they are £3 or £4.99.

Aldi's manuka is packed in Belgium!!! I've tasted it once and I don't think it's a proper manuka. Only good thing about Aldi's manuka is that is in a glass jar while H&B is in a plastic which can't be good.

I really don't understand you - all honey producers I've met & talked to in the complimentary health field are awed by the properties that Manuka has & wish that we had manuka bushes over here. Most of them sell it too as a complimentary product to their own honey.

Key phrases - complimentary, producers. I would guess they're in awe of the incredible markup it can be sold at

IF you had a wonderful product, proven to work almost miracles, wouldn't you sell it at a premium price? What annoys me are the unscrupulous people who are selling an inferior product, calling it Active+ when it's no better than everyday mass produced honey. Shame on Holland & Barrett and other suppliers who put this on their shelves.

I'm in awe of its' incredible properties and YES I took some into the lab and performed my 'blind' testing on it and other honey + anti-biotics on agar plates. The Manuka UMF came out better than ANYthing else including anti-biotics. Yes, I did know exactly what I was doing. I did this myself because I just couldn't believe what I saw on the New Zealand University site on the agar plates. - I did work for one of the top worldwide pharmaceuticals.

It's sold at a premium because of its' amazing properties.

What does bother me is that some Manuka is sold on the name Manuka Active+ NOT the UMF factor - some don't have the special Manuka Factor.

As long as people stick to buying Manuka Active +UMF of strength 10 or better then they will be getting the laboratory tested real thing.

Complimentary medicine - how ALL pharmaceuticals would have been classed initially when ALL their products were herbal. Although many of their products now are synthetic reproductions of natural products (often with resulting bad side effects - sometimes other molecules in the herbs which prevent these side effects are left out because the pharmaceuticals don't know these are needed too).

Sneer & ridicule all you want - I KNOW Manuka UMF works & I won't be posting again. If you've done tests that PROVE it doesn't then come back! I've done tests that PROVE it does.

Miracles are never really miracles - they have explanations.

I don't sneer & ridicule, but I will highlight bad science and marketing gimmicks over good science.

My last word - try your local honey - you won't notice the difference in it's effect on you

I am a microbiologist. I am wondering whether you published your 'study'?

And er, which 'agar' did you use exactly, which organisms and which antibiotics at what strengths? Temperatures and other parameters?
  • Probably best thing is to try the different honeys and see how you feel yourself, if it works for you then keep buying it and if not try something else.
I'm sure my hot toddy of homemade sloe gin made into a long drink with hot water helps me but then I don't need an excuse to drink it :)

I haven't found any local honey yet but I will try it too
