I was in the exact same situation and in the end I ended up re homing my male to a old lady, he's now in a only cat household and he's a totally different cat! After suffering 4 years of torture much like yours he peed all over the house just for attention. I tried many things to get him to stop. he was a lovely cat as well and do miss him but its easier without him! He went to the vets to have various checks all clear, tried felliway plug in and spray, various brands of cat chill pills from the vet, keeping him indoors only, he just wanted all attention on him and bullied my other 3 girls to the point one ran away for a month! The final nail in the coffin was him weeing on my son! On his play mat When he was a baby! He had done many other things weeing on my husband in bed scratching my 5 year old daughter and biting her leg! He had weed on every bed we owned and every carpet/rug etc poor dogs bed was the fave place along with clean washing! Sorry I can't offer much help :-( some cats just don't share there slaves to well and have a need to have your undecided attention lol! :rotfl:

Some cats are just more difficult than others.
It sounds to me as if there is just not enough territory and space in your flat for him and the other two cats, he sounds like he needs to get out and burn off his energy outside.
  • Have you ever seen the show My cat from hell with cat behaviorist Jackson Galaxy?

It is really educational about what a cat needs to be happy and the small changes (sometimes a lot) in your home to make your cat much happier.

Some of the cats on the show were almost feral house cats and he managed to help them

I think he has a website also.

Hiya thanks for all the replies everyone!

Yeah he sleeps - but he doesn't seem to have a trigger as such - one of the other cats will use the scratch post/tower and he'll fly off the sofa where he was sleeping and start being a douche, Clio (the female) can walk past him and he'll shoot over to get her - I swear to god he glares at me and the cat I'm stroking at that point - it's almost like jealousy?

Yep they have toys - He loves his pink fluffy ball - loves his mouse thing - brings it to your feet for you to throw it, and he fetches it, brings it back to your feet and meows for you to do it again. Scratch tower - activity thingy, that they just seem to fight off, old pop up tent of my daughters and tunnel they all like to play in, one of those circuit toys that a ball rolls up and down in, a square cube with a ball in for them to play with - They probably have more stuff than me :rotfl:

Food wise - He eats a mix of both wet & dry, my other male just eats dry but they both drink loads of water - usually out my bath whilst I'm in it, but that's always been like that, it's not changed. It is supermarket type stuff they get, I did used to feed hills science indoor neutered but tbh he's such a greedy sod that I just wasnt paying £17 a bag for something that wasn't lasting - where as before I got him, it would last 3 times as long - and the 2 male cats are in cahoots, Archie opens doors and dexter gets in the cupboards to chomp through packets. They also get raw mince, chicken, cooked chicken prawns etc, but Dexter doesn't like most of it :-/

He's always been odd with litterboxes in the sense that if he hears you cleaning them or other cats using one, he will rush there and squeeze something out in one of the trays - which is BTW the most annoying thing ever, I don't wanna be hit with a fresh stink when my head is close to the trays.

I've taken him outside before and he didn't like it - my mum hates cats and has a dog - so dont think she would have him and there is unneutered cats in her street (drug users thinking its a good idea to breed her cats and then wonders why the male comes back covered in bites)

He's been to the vets a few month ago (when he was pizzing on presents etc) and the vet said that there was nothing wrong with him and he'd "grow" out of it. He must just be over 1 by now - and I do know they eventually settle (hopefully....)

Im always shouting his name as he's trying to climb the curtains and weighs about 20kg, took my curtain pole down before :( or he's trying to smack clio. Im so tempted to wallop him when I see him bullying her - he'd probably like it, seems to enjoy getting squirted in the face too.

He is a VERY strange cat though - he even relaxes weird....

Wants to be near you in the bath, so he can eat your bubbles and then go in.

and this is the cat he plays with - Archies my baby, has a netting obsession has cost me over £800 and is missing most of his intestines but my god hes the loveliest cat you'll ever meet, never took his claws out once (!!!)

Oh and I really DONT want to get rid of him, Id have major guilt and fret he wasn't being looked after properly. He hasn't peed (that I know of) since I posted - but he does keep fetching my post - I come home and parcels and letters are scattered in different rooms and I see him when the postman comes he runs to the door throws himself at the letter box and drags the mail through.

    I think he believes he's a dog.

  • You have an eccentric cat, who doesn't know if he is a cat, dog, or human!

I think he looks lovely, but I'm not living with him....

He sounds wonderful... a couple of mine have behaved similarly. They leap in the litter box to mark their territory.. my wee/poo is there first and last so it is mine.

He sounds like a spoiled jealous child.

One of mine opens doors... so I changed the handles to knobs.. that sorted that problem!

2 shred paper.. any and all paper.. that drives me insane.

Change his name.. Cats called Dexter are little $h!ts... I knew one used to get on the bus go for a ride and get off a couple of stops later and saunter home!

That made me laugh pigpen, he likes to chomp on paper/cardboard aswell, currently playing in my daughters rollerskates box - does make me laugh the two of them think they can both fit in.

He's not been bad really the past few days - bar hitting clio once or twice in a nasty way - but I bought fresh catnip yesterday so he spent the day on cloud 9 and was much more enjoyable to be around so maybe I'll just keep him high 24/7 :rotfl: they got new toys yesterday and some more malt hairball paste - stop him making those gross puke noises every other day cause he licks your hairbrushes :-/

My Mum's cat eats her way through any box you leave lying around - nothing is safe!

I think your kitty likes to be the centre of attention, that's all. I watched a programme once (like the Dog Whisperer) where one cat was exhibiting some similar behaviour to yours. A cat specialist came in and told the couple to feed the naughty cat first (gives them the impression of dominance), and also give the cats a play, feed, sleep routine - both of these things stopped one cat attacking the other and they lived a very happy life after that!
