Oh no! I feel for you and the poor kitty, he does sound stressed. Feliway can help, maybe buy one of those? As others have suggested, have you got enough litter trays? Also, cats can be quite finicky and something as simple as changing where his food bowl is can help. Try having a look at http://www.fabcats.org/behaviour/ - they've got some great tips.

Like you said, he's got his good points so it sounds like it can be something you can rectify with a little patience - please don't give up on him, there's so many little kitties out there needing a home and I'd hate to hear of another :(

Kitty does sound very stressed indeed.

How many litter trays do you have? The rule of thumb is one tray per cat in the household, plus one extra (this goes up to two extra if over four cats in one household). So you will need four. Make sure they are scrupulously clean. I have five cats, and our trays are completely emptied twice a day (when we get up and when we go to bed).

If there is less than enough litter trays, this can cause stress and inappropriate toileting as a result. People are often unaware of how necessary this is.

Start using Feliway plug-in's (I have a spare plug-in*but I don't have the refill with it* that I'm happy to send to you if you like, because they aren't the cheapest things to buy as a full set) and spray in the areas that he most often frequents.

Catnip is brilliant too, invest in dried catnip leaves (the strongest you can find) and you can make your own toys with it. I tied some up in a baby sock for mine, and it lasted for months! Catnip spray on the scratching posts and beds.

Make sure there are plenty of places for the other cats to hide and be separate from each other, through the use of scratching posts, hidey boxes, cupboards they are allowed to go in, anything like that.

Hope you get it sorted x

Sorry to interrupt but when you say you empty the litter trays twice a day do you completely change the litter or just scoop clumps? What litter do you use? And do you have 7 litter trays? Where do you put them? I have a multi cat household too and I could do with some advice. I have 7 cats but don't know where I'd put 9 litter trays!
  • I also hate cats! Horrible little beasts. Best thing for problems like this, according to my old Grandad is a shovel.
  • To clarify I would not shovel one myself. The Mrs has 2 of these brutes living in the house. They only care about their gut and causing me stress.

Clearly your wife's cats are very intelligent and excellent judges of character.:)

One is very smart, the other is just malicious. I know what he is up to but he has convinced the Mrs he is nice, but I see past that, he knows that I know. :)

That made me lol, he's a smart kitty.

I have 2 cats and both are lovely, not a malicious one in their little furry bodies.

    Does he sleep ever?

My cousins cat is very much like this and has epilepsy.. he is a total crazy beast. I had him for 4 days and was fit to string him up.

I have a senile old one I am wondering if I should 'let go' because of his near constant peeing in the house and worse. He yowls constantly and just drives me insane.. He is eating and does appear happy but I probably would be too if I got away with behaving like he does.

Mine are odd, only 1 will use a litter tray.. I don't think they like the bits between their toes! Shredded paper was the only thing acceptable.. no little or soil would do.. and one would only use pink litter.. problem is, she has white feet!

Am I the only person with normal, sane cats?
