We had our fair share of eating disorders and hang ups, but. Do think we were aware that bodies came it different ( healthy and normal ) shapes from that experience.
I'm not quite as worried about it now...the gym doesn't have cubicals so people get changed there and it doesn't bother me in terms of seeing other women. That said i'm still a little bit body concious and get changed in the shower cubicle if i've been swimming...that ir try and do the whole getting changed under a towel thingI'm very overweight so i see it more as sparing them the sight of me naked

I think most teens are self conscious. I remember feeling uncomfortable several times in the situation despite coming from a household where being comfortable with nudity was encouraged, and at the time sharing a dorm with other girls. I personally think I would be more embarrassed now as an adult with lower body confidence if I had not had those teen experiences.
Btw, I try and remember most people in group changing rooms are more worried about what others think of them than what they think of us. Do what makes you feel comfortable but for those of us 'sparing others' I challenge myself about that all the time.0 -
It isn't something that would bother or affect me because I don't strip off in a communal shower and always use a cubicle or spendless' method.
If it did, I'd have a word with the manager about them chatting for ages once dressed - they should be prepared to move them on if they are disturbing other members.
I wouldn't hesitate to use one of the family cubicles if they refuse to do anything about it.
It's bad manners (and a little odd) to hang around a changing area anyway in my opinion. Most of us want to get out as soon as possible because they are so warm!
Have a word with the manager.0 -
I am astounded at how many women on here feel uncomfortable being naked in front of others. I wonder what messages this gives to young girls?
As for the OPs problem, not sure if this has already been mentioned but I would speak to the centre manager and tellthem your concerns. ask if
1. They can put up signs asking for families to use the changing cubicles, whenever possible
2. If the size/shape of the communal area will allow it, designate an area as 'adults only'0 -

I don't mind others seeing my body parts we all have them in varying shapes and sizes.. I just don't like being naked even at home I wouldn't walk about naked even if I was the only person in the house... not even from the bathroom to the bedroom I always put on a dressing gown or towel or take my clothes on the bathroom and get dressed in there.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

We're talking about a women's changing room, a safe female only space. Not about jogging starkers down Oxford Street!
I don't think its any bad thing for young girls to see a few naked adult women in the baths. It might actually do them see good to realise the variety of shapes and sizes and appearances that real women come in. Otherwise the only naked bodies they'll see are the ones used in advertising and for titillation and their own, which they will then compare.0 -
Not sure if you misread my post Person-one? My concern is the messages that young girls are getting from women who are uncomfortable with being naked, not the ones that do get naked!0

What an odd woman who wants to chat for hours in a changing room. WEIRDO.... Who wouldnt get changed and then pop into the cafe bit and natter over a latte and a fruit shoot for the kids
Maybe these are the same women she went to antenatal classes and toddler groups with?
Not all pools have a cafe. We got a new pool in my town, and the old one was demolished. The old one had a bar and a cafe. The new one has a variety of vending machines, and the coffee is vile. They don't sell fruit shoots either - they don't sell anything with artificial sweetener, I was told when I asked why they'd taken fruit shoots out of the machine. I don't particularly like fruit shoots, but the full-sugar tango, coke, oasis and drench contain massive amounts of sugar, and I'd forgotten my boy's water.
The vending machines are in the area where parents sit to watch the kids swimming lessons, and are the only seats in the complex. You'd be very lucky to be able to get a chair after coming out of a lesson, because parents would be using them to watch the current lesson.
If she's good friends with the other women though, they could always find somewhere else or go out for a meal, but if it's 7:30 on a school night I'm guessing that they go straight to bed.52% tight0 -
Yes - the teenage girls block the 2 cubicals with clothing too.
I hate that
There are cubicles and family cubicles in our changing rooms, but when people leave their stuff in there, on the bench instead of using a locker it means nobody else can use that room to get ready for the next lesson, or get dried. It's the same people every time. I've taken the notices down - the ones that tell people not to leave their stuff in the cubicles because it's not fair on others - and left the notices on top of the piles of clothes, to no avail.
I've started dumping the clothes in empty lockers now, but it still hasn't stopped them from doing it. I'm considering wetting them next week :rotfl::o
There are no benches or communal areas in which to get changed - if you can't use a cubicle you have to try to do it standing up on the wet floor in front of your locker.
There are lots of empty lockers. If they can't find a pound coin to use a locker (it gets refunded) then surely putting their clothes into an empty one and leaving in unlocked is safer than leaving their stuff in a changing room, then not knowing where to find it once some evil person such as myself has moved it?52% tight0
