Sorry Paul that's not true. If it were, there wouldn't be any dodgy traders in business.

The sheer number of threads on here demonstrates quite clearly that when it comes to selling something, there are any number of dealers who are not averse to the odd omission of the truth or feel customer service ends once they hand the keys over.

Dodgy traders come and go. They're in it for the quick buck. They get caught on and move on to something else.

You only have to look at gumtree at all the 'private' adverts and 'i bought this last week but my wife doesnt like it' excuses as to why they're name is not on the v5. Google search their mobile number and there'll be a string of cars but they'll swear blind they're not traders.

Granted, there are a relatively tiny minority of ruthless traders who are hard nosed enough to weather any storm but again, not terribly hard to spot and usually operating from 'bombsite' forecourts.

All I said was why waste paid-for minutes on your mobile to correct the mistake of corrupt sales staff when you could wait till they phone you?

Jeez - on virtually every other thread, the sales staff are the enemy. Make your minds up.

Sorry in another life I used to run dealership's for a German car company. Some on the sales executives where total idiots and some where just like you and I. Normal people just trying to get by.

So I always have a soft spot for car sales exec's they get a lot of flack and in most cases they are not the total nightmare's they are are made out to be.

    Sorry!

I agree but can you honestly tell me that all car salesmen are honest. thats what is really sad

No not all all but equally you can not say that all members of the public are either. I know that a sales person who worked for me was counting cash with a customer.

The procedure was that a member of the accounts team and the sales exec had to count the cash in-front of the customer and then provide a receipt.

The customer was paying the balance £4,500. The accountant was busy so counted the cash then left the room to help someone else.

The sales exec stupidly left the room to get a new receipt book. Came back wrote the receipt and the customer left.

In the interim period the customer had taken some of the money back. Just over £1500. The sale guy being busy did not notice.

The had worked for the company for over 5 years and he ended up having to pay the money.

    Not nice!

    Really??

According to some on here they'd have expected him to get a cheekie chappie clip round the ear?

Oh, of course, you're talking about the real world arent you?

Sorry the Arthur Daily ducking and diving sales man may still exist but certainly not in most cases.

I actually felt very sorry for him. He was a nice guy and I did not for one second think that he had taken the money.

In fact I had to fight to keep him. The fact that he was a 20-30 new unit's a month man helped! lol But the boards first reaction was theft and get him gone!

this will almost certainly be spotted and you will be required by law to pay the remainin 9800. Not a single court in the country will let you off without paying this.

You will have a contract saying the total payable sum is £10K. No iffs no butts.

Innocent mistake on the part of the salesman and not funny if they have a cash flow issue at the end of the month and cant make the wages bill, although based on your sales experience I would have walked without the car anyway.

Personally I don't trust a dealer any more than I trust a private seller.

Their job is quite legitimately to maximise profit. They are incentivised by bonus schemes to sell you diamondsuperbrightneverwashyourcar protectors and warranties that cover next to nothing as it is all wear and tear. People trade in cars because they are worried about bills. Dealers want to punt them on for minimum fuss and with as little work as possible. Buying at a dealer should give you more protection but apart from that, there is no difference in my eyes.

Look at the number of SOGA claims (something which dealers fail to mention when flogging a warranty) on here not just from backstreet types but at main dealers.

Also, I give you Keighly Trade Centre as evidence of the hard nose, but: terrible reputation for years all across this site and the web but decent pitch, slick website and still trading.

No one who did a google search would buy a car but they clearly make sales and as we know people travel to pick up a car.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
