I think buyers need to take into consideration the entire cost and p&p is part of that. I dont think that sellers should add things such as 'parking for PO or time to walk to PO' but the second P stands for Packaging. Now I dont sell huge amounts and I dont have lots of space so I cant bulk buy my packaging. I add 30-40p to each listing and Postage cost to cover these.

If someone asks me to refund the cost over the stamp (even if its a small amount) I'd say that they can have a refund when they bid and win on something else. then post the something else with no packaging and just the stamp and lable on it.

(I wouldnt but thats pretty much what your expecting)

Out of interest, if a seller charges £2 to post something that costs £3 in stamps are you equally concerned that the item value is, or isn't, fairly displayed?

As I've said, what the seller decides to chage for postage is up to them. If they want to overcharge for postage and are happy to take the risk of low DSR, that's their perogative. If they're undercharging postage to try and attract bids/sales, it's up to them to decide if the profit they will receive is worth it. If they're undercharging on postage because they haven't researched the actual cost of postage properly, they're a fool.

As I've explained, pretty clearly I think, when it comes to answering the question "is the postage reasonable" I answer based on what I've been charged versus actual cost.

Just out of interest, how do you work out actual cost on something like PPI or RMT postage?

Could you imagine if sellers could still leave negs?
You can just see it now couldn't you, Buyer wouldn't pay extra postage so i negged them!

I expect them to be lower than the cost in stamps. If they're more than the cost of the stamps, I'm likely to mark down DSR.

I recently had a book arrive with a PPI label, in a re-used amazon packet. I'd been charged 1.5 times what the stamp rate for the item would have been, so I left a 3 for P&P as they'd clearly overcharged me.

Very clear but you said "Since I've become a seller, I realise what post costs" so how has your perspective of "fairness" altered since realising what P&P actually costs and does this not highlight the point that DSR scores are completely subjective.

Is it reasonable for a seller to pay £1 for a jiffy bag or £3 for a box at the Post Office, it's often said, "oh you can pay those in poundland", so does you perspective of fairness cover just the cost of packaging that you have access to or consider all eventualities.

I can post a 2 kilo 2nd Class item for £1.80, that will cost you 8 quid at the PO, if I charge £6 P&P in your view will my charge be reasonable (considering you'll never know what I've paid as the stamp has no value)?

I think you missed the point, that the seller breaks the P&P the other way to make it look cheaper, not charge x but then ask for more.

We can go round in circles all day.

I've posted several times on how I consider my feedback when I come to leave it. I can see how it's been posted, whether it has stamps or it's come from an account. If it comes in a brand new jiffy bag, I'll factor that in. If it comes in recycled packaging, I factor that in. I use my common sense to work out if the seller has charged me more than it's cost them when answering the question "is the cost of P&P reasonable" and leave stars accordingly. I realise the affect stars have on a seller account and won't leave unduly harsh ones unless I feel the seller is taking the mick.

You can come up with as many examples as you like, but I've explained exactly how I leave my p&p feedback. If you have different criteria, that's up to you, I don't have a problem with that.

Buyers have been brainwashed by ebay into thinking anyone who charged more P&P than the stamp cost is a theif.

The reason for this is ebay is paranoid about losing FVF on the postage element of the sale, despite as has been pointed out getting the paypal fees off it anyway.

If some loon has taken the time out to write an email over £1.40 then block the fool and ignore them, it's not like you'd want them back as a customer.

But what if it was something difficult for you to calculate the actual cost. Ie 15kg in weight and with full tracking on a 24 hour service?
