Buyer asked for partial postage refund

  • I would say I don't agree with asking for part of the money back as if it an auction it's unfair on the under bidder or if a BIN unfair on those who didn't buy due to the overall price. You've beat their price and got the item but are then asking for it cheaper than the other were willing to pay when they have most likely factored in the PP costs to the overall price

If the principle of asking for part refunds stands you could win everything you want and then find any reason to only pay x amount, the P&P is just a convenient reason IMO.

I doubt anyone would block me, I spend a lot and that's all sellers care about, selling their items, especially in a recession. But no, I won't be telling you my eBay name lol

I'd block you in a heartbeat.
And for the record, I have over 1,000 feedbacks, no negs or neutrals and high stars all through (5 for P+P)

There some awesome keyboard warrior's on this site ! People who on the whole would (one would guess) not say 'boo to a goose'

People willingly trashing some one's account over small trivial amounts , threatening bad feedback in all but name , shouting (typing in cap's) and stating that you will never change my mind !Agreeing to a sale then disputing it after! ..... there is much, much more, all signs of the poor behaviour that now infests the forums and social media of the web. And what is more, most decent people would never dream of such behaviour in face to face contact.

It has been stated many a time that Ebay is moving towards a 'big seller ' model, and this is backed up by many of the statements in this and other threads and forums. Which if fine if you as an individual are happy with with this shift. May be this analogy is appropriate ... may be not..... Once upon a time there where lots of small individual shops , now we only see the big retail giants. Has this been a good move ?

Ebay is now encouraging and attracting more and more big sellers, while smaller casual sellers are being squeezed out by the behaviour and selling methods being employed.

Therefore using the same standards to judge the two very different groups is unfair.

I do buy at the big supermarket giants, but love to find those small independent shops . You know the price will be more but some times the service or goods make up for it.

I for one try to behave while typing just as I would away from the sanctuary of my computer desk.
And yes I too would love to know certain members ebay names to block. However it makes no difference to me now as I stopped selling due to such actions.

Rememberer that you are hurting individuals with your actions, if that is what you want to keep on doing then that is your poor choice.

Keyboard Warrior'isim is not big and certainly not clever

    I would block her too!

You agree to the price. What she is doing is effectively blackmail. I see your price I want the item and will get it but I'm not happy with the price so give me a refund or I'll trash your stars.

I guess my P&P and sometimes I'm under (rarely) sometimes I'm over but I'm lazy and thats my risk. I might refund partially if there's a massive difference (I have once or twice) but if asked for it I'd stick my heels in.

And I dont care how big a spender you are. Rudeness and blackmail arent attractive traits in a buyer.

Thanks for your opinion, but I don't agree.

well we shall agree to disagree!

I'm a pretty big buyer too and when leaving feedback I often think where does this feedback leave me in comparison to others.

for example, for an overcharge of £1.40 and and by the sounds of it a reply to your message asking for a postage refund the seller has got a neg and 1 star for postage and comms.

so how do you differentiate between that and a seller who has overcharged postage by say £10 and either not replied to your message or been rude in their reply?

or are the 2 sellers the same to you?
if i had known then what i know now

I WANT MY OWN WAY AND I AM HAPPY TO RESORT TO ANY MEANS TO GET IT, INCLUDING TAKING REVENGE WHEN SOMEONE DARES TO STAND UP TO ME.

    It's all in the subtext...

YOU AGREE THE POSTAGE COST WHEN YOU CLICK THE BID NOW BUTTON.

You agree with the assumption that the postage costs listed reflects (more or less) the actual cost incurred by the seller, at least I do. Sellers overcharging on postage is no different from companies adding ridiculous card-charges which have no basis in reality. As a buyer, I wouldn't give a negative (or even neutral) to someone overcharging on P&P but I will give the appropriate stars. That's only fair to those sellers who charge exact cost.

    Very reasonable post.

that sounds very fair and the way I do things as a buyer, though I always allow a bit for packing as well as I know packing materials, envelopes etc are not free.

Great post, and exactly how I operate. Since I've become a seller, I realise what post costs and I can see where the seller is using postage to avoid fees and leave appropriate DSR (when leaving DSR, the question is "is it reasonable" after all).
