I think that the big difference here is that the OP sold the item for less than it's value and hence the buyer got a bargain. In that instance I would have kept my mouth shut and just left it.
Suburbanwifey on the other hand admits to making a large profit on her items and so can afford to be a bit more generous.
I only sell a few bits and pieces on ebay, I prefer amazon for selling my products.
I recently sold some (unwanted )brand new ski wear, unworn labels on, retail price £80. I put in on as an auction. Lots of watchers but only sold for £5 in the end. I underestimated the postage costs as it was quite bulky. After my fees I am actually out of pocket. Also had to push the buyer for feedback!! I think you have to take the rough with the smooth and get over it.
I would also add that many shops have a minimum postal price (tesco's £5, no matter what!)

Or work out what it actually costs to post your item before listing.

...and that is exactly what the problem is, with you and the buyer the OP has posted about. It is why I don't sell on ebay anymore, because of the idiots on there.

Suburbanwifey, I like your posts on the forum so I won't carry on and get into an argument that none of us is going to back down on, so have a nice day. I think you are going to be taken apart on this though.

I am not sure why I like your post and it made me smile but thanks for that, even though its still having a go at me, made me smile in a nice way. Good Day to you too, thanks for your opinion. It hasn't changed mine but debate is nice, even if no one will back down.

(ask my hubby, I never back down when I am right :D)

What don't you understand here? Let me put it in capitals.

YOU AGREE THE POSTAGE COST WHEN YOU CLICK THE BID NOW BUTTON.

That's it, that is what the first post on this thread is about, because a weasly nasty buyer seems to have forgotten that. Yes, the OP should refund to keep a clean set of feedback, BUT IT ISN'T RIGHT.

The OP said that the parcel went through in a different band than she had expected - thus the overcharge. So what is the big deal about refunding anyway.
If someone charges me £5.20 for a parcel which is the large parcel cost, and it actually goes through as a medium parcel for £2.60 then I would expect a refund.

I WANT THE ITEM, I MAY NOT AGREE THE POSTAGE COST BUT I WANT THE ITEM AND I WILL GET IT. THEN DEAL WITH THE POSTAGE.

When you placed your bid, you agreed to all the sellers terms and conditions - Ebay state this just before you click the button to place the bid. Why did you lie on that page but click the final bid button - and why did you stick the knife in after the fact? Ebay needs to remove your buying privileges. You cannot be trusted to act ethically. I find your behaviour disgusting - and what worries me even more, you think you are in the right!

Yes I do that now but I don't sell very often on ebay and I didn't have time to spend an hour in the queue/getting to the PO to get it weighed beforehand. Also, didn't expect the item to only sell for £5!!
(which is why I won't bother with auctions from now on)

you do realise that PACKAGING is included in P&P?? it's not just the stamp price!

To trash someone for about £1 is unfair and no matter how much money you have you would be on my blocked bidders list straight away as an unreasonable buyer. not every seller is a company who can absorb things or likely to have repeat customers. You can do untold damage to a sellers future sales with neg feedback and low stars, power has gone to your head and you are unreasonable and vindictive! As someone else said a positive with maybe a 3 or even a 4 for P+P would be fine, but a negative and 1*, unreasonable, and 1* for communications because you didn't like the answer, no response or abusive response then fine, but just because you didn't like the answer. Ebay can do without buyers like you.

Well as yet eBay haven't banned me as a buyer or seller as my policy compliance is HIGH and as a spender, I make lots of money for eBay and allow the ordinary man in the street out there to sell things to me to give them money that they may need to live on in these difficult times. Block me by all means, there are more than you as a seller out there, always someone who wants my business and is prepared to charge fair postage.

Whatever! we are each entitled to our opinion. I take it your stars aren't that good on your account then. Opinion on this is divided and divided and always will be.

I see you have decided to miss my main points!

Do you accept that to the average person that packing materials are not free?
Why is 1* for Communication fair just because you did not like the answer?

There are still plenty of buyers who act in a reasonable way, if there is a large overcharge on postage then something needs to be done but this is not an example of this.

This is an example of a power mad buyer holding sellers to ransom, you are unreasonable with your feedback and your actions.
