Buyer asked for partial postage refund
Comments
-
I recently bought 2 muslin cloths. 35x35cms. The seller had postage of £2.50  The actual cost was 69p.
Yes I did give a 2 on their postage star and it is the first time I have ever done it on ebay since 2008 when I joined.
The thing is that because the postage was so outrageous no one bid against me so I got them for a low price. For this reason I gave a positive and 4's on the rest of the stars which was truthful.Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.0 -

Why give 4's on the rest? 4's can be just as damaging if everybody starts dishing them out. How did the postage cost affect the item description?0 -
Yes, when you have a lot of cash to spend you can negotiate, nobody is arguing with that, in fact I'd probably do the same. The major difference is you did it BEFORE bidding.
The issue here is that with the lower priced items, (the sort of stuff with £1.40 postage), that the original poster is getting asked for a postage reduction after delivery, just because they see the postage sticker with a lower price than they paid. If this was in any way hidden in the auction then fair enough, but it couldn't be clearer, absolutely not. Doing this after postage, (in my opinion), AND threatening negs or lower stars is weasly, underhand and a nasty way of conducting yourself.
But if you're happy acting like that then fine.
I conduct myself in a fair and appropriate manner on eBay, to me my buyers are KING and I treat them as such. I have not one neg in years of selling, I get repeat buyers who buy my stuff and I have a record of glowing feedback. Buyers go where they are treated well, as do I.
I have never once threatened neg feedback. I don't play mind games by threats, I just take action if they treat me badly and refusing a refund of postage when it cost them less to post than they charged me to me is theft of my money and I act accordingly. I am allowed to leave feedback according to how I feel as all buyers are. Sellers who think buyers will be happy when they overcharge postage are making a huge mistake, their stars will get hit, their feedback will get damaged and thus buyers for them, will be thin on the ground and they even risk suspension from eBay. If you feel that 1.40 is worth the consequences, then that's your choice.0 -
If the buyer feels strongly enough to contact you over postage overcharge then personally I would definitely refund them. What is £1.40 these days - peanuts!
Keeping my buyers happy comes first!0 -

What don't you understand here? Let me put it in capitals.
YOU AGREE THE POSTAGE COST WHEN YOU CLICK THE BID NOW BUTTON.
That's it, that is what the first post on this thread is about, because a weasly nasty buyer seems to have forgotten that. Yes, the OP should refund to keep a clean set of feedback, BUT IT ISN'T RIGHT.0 -

You are the type of seller I would buy from again and again and by having lots of buyers like that, your auction prices are pushed up as people like buying from you. Your attitude is how all sellers should be, as lets face it, if someone like me contacts you as they are annoyed about it, ignoring them is not wise.0 -

What you don't understand and I can put it in capitals too, is this:
I WANT THE ITEM, I MAY NOT AGREE THE POSTAGE COST BUT I WANT THE ITEM AND I WILL GET IT. THEN DEAL WITH THE POSTAGE.0 -

Oh yes it is! the buyer was ripped off as it cost the seller less to post than they charged. It is right and it happens every day on eBay since eBay gave buyers the right to object and leave appropriate stars for such shoddy selling practices.0 -

...and that is exactly what the problem is, with you and the buyer the OP has posted about. It is why I don't sell on ebay anymore, because of the idiots on there.
Suburbanwifey, I like your posts on the forum so I won't carry on and get into an argument that none of us is going to back down on, so have a nice day. I think you are going to be taken apart on this though.0 -

you do realise that PACKAGING is included in P&P?? it's not just the stamp price!
To trash someone for about £1 is unfair and no matter how much money you have you would be on my blocked bidders list straight away as an unreasonable buyer. not every seller is a company who can absorb things or likely to have repeat customers. You can do untold damage to a sellers future sales with neg feedback and low stars, power has gone to your head and you are unreasonable and vindictive! As someone else said a positive with maybe a 3 or even a 4 for P+P would be fine, but a negative and 1*, unreasonable, and 1* for communications because you didn't like the answer, no response or abusive response then fine, but just because you didn't like the answer. Ebay can do without buyers like you.0
