Nationwide online banking problem

  • Just to bump this. I was having an identical problem to that reported by the OP in this thread. I only use IE (IE9) for FD Internet Banking Plus and my Nationwide accounts refused to open from within First Direct.

The Nationwide accounts open fine direct in Firefox but not in IE9.

Unticking the TLS checkboxes in Tools, Internet Options, Advanced also solved my problem and Nationwide will now load in both.

I do wish whatever protocols first direct use in IE were available in other platforms as I really dislike the browser.
  • IE works fine for me on IE9, as does chrome and firefox.

I am however having an issue using any browser on my ipad. Other sites work fine, but Nationwide's website is doing something weird. When their homepage loads all the links don't work ... but if I'm quick and click a link before the page fully loads then the link works.

I suspect it's some weird javascript behaviour based on user-agent strings, as the website works fine from an iPhone.

Anyone else having this problem with an iPad ?
  • Nobody? Even if you don't bank with them, if you have an iPad could you try loading the homepage and then clicking one a couple of the links and see if they work?

No all working fine using Safari and Mercury and iOS7.

    What iOs are you using?
  • iOS7 on my iPad4. Tried both Safari and Chrome, but as soon as the page has fully loaded then the links stop working. If I'm quick and click on a link before the page fully loads then the link works.
Weird, and only seems to do this on Nationwide's website, which leads me to think it's a bug of some kind in their code.
  • Actually I think I've just verified it's a bug. If I disable Javascript in the Safari settings then it works properly. If Javascript is enabled then it breaks the whole site!!!! That's pretty shocking!

JavaScript is enabled in my Safari settings and the site works fine.

IOS 7 on iPad 3 here. No problems with the nationwide.co.uk website though I don't use internet banking on my iPad. Presumably I should be using their iPad app, anyway, if I wanted to use Internet banking.

Oh no just seen this message on their website:

We are making improvements to your online and mobile banking on Sunday 12 January between 00:00 and 06:00. Some customers may not be able to view their Current Account(s) at this time.

We apologise for any inconvenience this causes you.

Doing all my banking today as who knows when it will work again. I still can only access via IE and not Chrome.

Stop panicking. Maintenance at weekends is totally normal. Midnight to 6am on a Sunday morning will probably inconvenience almost nobody. Even if they overrun for a couple of hours, it's not the end of the world.

I can do Nationwide online banking on Chrome, IE and FF. Haven't done anything special - my browsers are the vanilla version, i.e. I have not modified any settings and not installed any extensions. Are you saying it's not working for you in vanilla Chrome?
