Hi all. haven't posted for a while but be assured I've been lurking...
We've been to look at prams but aren't really any less confused than before. I think we've decided to skip the whole travel system thing and spend a wee bit extra now to get a car seat that will see Bean beyond 9 months but I would like a pram that has a carry cot. A bit of colour would be nice too. There's an awful lot of black, grey or brown around which isn't particularly cheerful...

Just my humble opinion but I think you'll regret it if you don't get a stage1 seat and go for the bigger stage 1+. I definitely follow the OW tale of "never wake a sleeping baby" and you most definitely would wake them if you have to get them out of the seat to get them out of the car.
Also you'll probably still end up buying the same amount of seats in the long term as the car seat advisory people I spoke to(from my local council road safety team) said that the one that claim to be stage 1+2 tend to be smaller than a Stage 2 seat and therefore are out grown sooner IYKWIM

I have got my appointment to listen to bub's heartbeat next week booked. The midwife is going to do it as GP has left.

Excited it can be recorded, so now will be counting down to next week.

We decided against getting the stage 1 car seat mainly because everyone says your not meant to keep babies in them for too long and since we live quite a drive away from friends and family I wasnt too sure about them. Ive had a bad back my whole life so wanted to get baby off to as best a start as possible. We were just going to go for the birth to 4 years type seat but then you have the waking a sleeping baby thing which didnt seem ideal either. Then we found the Britax Vigour pushchair and this carry cot.

The carry cot can be put into the car as a car seat so baby lies flat and then you just clip it on to the pushchair. Perfect for us. It says it can be used for up to 6 months but I dont think it will last that long but its good for a start and we can decide what to do car seat wise when its too small.

We did save money by getting a 2nd hand Mutsy pushchair from a friend for £60 - about £300 new.
I really dont like travel systems cos IMHO the less you take the car seat in and out of the car the safer it is.

  • Emma - how does it fasten in the car? Does it have a base or is it seatbelt secured?

BTW I had painful hips but it DID get better. Early days it is probably due to hormone changes. I found yoga helped a lot but ask advice from your GP or MW first.

You get two wee attachments to put onto your seatbelts that just hook onto the wee loops at each end. It doesnt sound very secure but it really is, suppose they wouldnt sell it if it wasnt :)

Hmmm...not convinced, would have to see one IRL.

Looking at it, does it only work if you have a middle 3 point seatbelt (not a lapbelt)?

Edited to say - not meaning to be quizzing you Emma...just asking questions (when I really should just get off my a$$ and have a look for myself!!!!
