I can't remember who it was but one of you made a comment about pelvic-floor exercises and somebody replied with..'you do realise that everytime we read that we all have to do them' and it's true. Read the words pelvic-floor exercise as a woman and you automatically start clenching!! See...bet you're clenching now too!

that was me... and thanks a lot

    Hi,

i recently added myself to the list.

been for first midwife appointment and now feel in limbo. no scan until 5 more weeks and midwife appointment in 6 or so weeks. i have problems with OCD and depression and really feel like 'what have i done'. i know that sounds awful but my hormones are all over the place. not sure whether to tell people, i know things can go wrong but listening to all the tests that are done and probable results, things could go wrong at any time. i hate waiting for test results and always fear the worst (part of OCD) and am beginning to wonder how i will cope.
we've all been through that limbo thing it's perfectly normal and I think it's harder early on as there are fewer outward signs etc. Tell the people you want to tell as soon as you feel able to tell them then at least you can talk to people about it - and sign up for loads of the pregnancy forums and you'll find that most people are going through the same worries etc as you are.

    and clench..... clench..... clench :rotfl:

    Hi,

It can feel a bit like being in limbo, especially as you might not have told anyone as yet.

I found keeping a journal during the first "uneventful" few weeks and months useful and looking at pregnancy books/websites so I can actually see what is happening inside me even though I can't feel it.

There are loads of tests and things that can go wrong, but on the other hand you only hear about the things that go wrong, you don't tend to hear about the millions of babies that are born all around the world every week which are perfectly normal. It is more likely for everything to be normal that things to go wrong. It is entirely up to you when you tell people, has to be when you are comfortable, we told immediate family straight away and then friends at New Year when I was 10 weeks (we had a big party planned before I got pregnant and it would have looked a bit odd me not drinking).

Just because the tests are offered you don't actually have to have them. The scans at 12 and 20 weeks are technically tests, because they are looking for certain things, its just an bouns that you get to baby before he is born, but you will find out straight away if they see any abnormal in them. Blood tests are just to keep an eye on you and cross check you blood should you need a blood transfusion and to check your blood group.
Tests for Down Symdrome etc are completed optional and you have to ask yourself what would you do should the results come back high risk. We decided we'd rather not know and didn't have the test. I'm a worrier and would have got stressed if we had come back as high risk especially as I wouldn't have terminated the pregnancy.

Hope this has helped some what, feel free to post about your worries on here or PM me, the girls here are brilliant at reassuring you, someone is bound to have experienced your sign or symptom and can help make you feel better.

I've had depression and had weeks during this pregnancy when I've been really low, but it passes and you can beat it. :grouphug:

Oh I remember those horrible first few weeks well. So you're pregnant, but there's no outward evidence, nobody knows, and nobody seems to care - it sucks! My advice is not to forget that at this stage your hormones are completely haywire and it's easy to be really hard on yourself and think you're not coping. In reality you're not doing too badly what with 3 kids, no money and gallons of mad hormones whizzing round your system! :) And don't worry yourself too much about tests - most of them are a few weeks away yet, so plenty time to have a think about whether you want them done or not. Tests don't change outcomes, just give you information that you might not even want.

MW has been, I almost cried about the C-section but managed to stifle it. She did exactly the right thing by not trying to hug me or anything (would have resulted in full-blown hysterical snottery sobbing, not good). She said nice things ("I think you probably will be more maternal than you think because you seem to be quite emotional") and she's coming back next week so we get to go through my ideas for the birth - she's suggested some more things to think about.

And I've just had 2 bagels with philly, an apple, a chocolate brownie and a bag of prawn cocktail crisps for lunch. It's ALL good. :EasterBun

What would I do without this thread, you're all so rational and calm!
PSML :rotfl: Rational and calm, that's me! :rotfl:

You should've seen how rational and calm I was last night when I suddenly realised that if this baby pops out at 38 weeks like DS did, then I've only got about 4 weeks left, and the poor mite doesn't even have a mattress for his cot or his basket as his Mummy is so disorganised :o. Alternatively, I could go overdue, in which case I've got almost 9 weeks left, which is going to drive me bananas!

And I read on another forum today about a lady who went 5 weeks overdue    and that just totally freaked me out.

So yes, calm and rational :p

Why would you cry about the word hospital if that's where Dr House is? :p

Aren't those early weeks so exciting though - it is horrible feeling a bit like you're left to your own devices, yes, and it's weird that while your enitre WORLD has just changed, it doesn't look any different to anyone else... but it's exciting and I loved having a secret and having those early conversations with my OH about what then seemed like a distant future... that's where the miracle is, your body is doing SO much and you can't see or feel it - amazing! :j

I might be looking back with rose tinted glasses though as I am also swearing this will be my one and only pregnancy :o

This has been playing on my mind too - I was planning to go on mat leave at about 31 weeks - my 2 weeks off sick are coming to an end and I'm wondering if actually leaving so early will drive me mad... well, madder than my workplace
I tend to do my christmas shopping on christmas eve so there's no hope for me being organised...

Why would you cry about the word hospital if that's where Dr House is? :p
Ohhhh :smileyhea careful, you'll set off my pregnant woman hormones... and we're seriously considering Gregory as our first choice of name :o

Mmm, I like Gregory. :) And House too :D

Re: names, DH's current joke is that the baby's name is going to be Hamish  (DH is Scottish, and we have a good Scottish surname). Yesterday, he made the mistake of telling DS that, so of course what does a 4-year-old do? Runs about like a looney, shouting "Baby Hamish, Baby Hamish!" for about an hour. Thankfully he seems to have forgotten about it today.
