  • Congratulations to all the new mums :) I'm not worrying about that part too much just yet (still 24 weeks at the moment, so not having to think about the details just yet. Right now I'm just resigned to my fate ;) )

I've had another midwife appointment this week - heartbeat is all still normal - blood pressure and everything else behaving itsself. Nice to know a few things are going well. I've got the apointment for my first Anti-D too. 14th October. Then midwife again on 15th. And for both of them I have to have a blood test. I won't have any left ;)

Re SPD - insist that you are referred to physio. I found that my doctor didn't know what he was when I went to see them, but I insisted on seeing someone who knew what to do! I have a pelvic corset thing (like a bit thick band of elastic - terribly attractive) which seems to be doing the trick. And they gave me crutches too. I feel a bit of a fraud walking with them most of the time, because I'm not too sore, but I know if I don't use them I will be. They are more as a preventative measure! I have discovered that if you are pregnant and walking with crutches that it suddenly becomes really easy to cross the road though - everyone stops for you! And when I go to the supermarket they are always even more eager to pack my bags for me than normal! Maybe I should give in and let them ;)

& re clothes - I invested in a couple of decent pairs of maternity trousers from Mothercare - I think I paid just under £50 for 2 pairs, which isn't toooo bad. And some of my gypsy style "one size fits all" tie round the middle skirts still fit me too. For tops, I've managed to get away with out needing maternity ones until fairly recently. You have to be careful which styles you choose - you need longer ones to cover your bump a bit further, but I've managed to get away with buying a few from primark that are a size up. I have bought myself a few actual maternity tops from New Look, but I managed to catch them in the sale, so they didn't break the bank too much :)

Anyway, had better get on with some work - am typing this into an e-mail window ready to cut-and-paste. Not a lot to do here today!

angelfairy - before you go out and buy a water bottle or wheat bags, check with your midwife it would be ok, as a friend of mine was told not to do this....something about overheating the baby, apparantly you are also not meant to have baths too hot!!!!

    Mel x

    Hi Mel,

    Thanks for your post.

I had thought of this (been guilty of a too hot bath also, but have put a stop to that) and I asked my mum but she thought it would be okay.

I always worry about phoning the midwife, haven't spoken to her since my booking in appointmetn 7 weeks ago.

I will phone the surgery and see if anyone is free to ask.

I dont want to be doing anything i shouldn't.

    Thanks again

Just spoke to the Day Assessment Unit and the midwife I spoke to said as I am 15 weeks it would be okay to use a hot water bottle or wheat bag but to keep it above my belly button, so i will give that a try.

Good lesson learnt though, ask questions. I felt silly asking such a basic question but she was lovely and as it is my first i haven't got the foggiest as to what is right or wrong.
  • Thanks Ladybird for your comments about SPD. I've left 2 messages on my midwife's voicemail since lunchtime yesterday, so fingers crossed she will actually call me back at some point. The emergency doctor I saw yesterday said the MW should be able to refer me to a local physio and he did mention the belt/girdle thingy.

I've still got 9 weeks left at work and although it's not unbearable, the constant pain/discomfort is tiring me out even more than ususal, so I really hope she gets back to me soon so I can get on a waiting list...
  • I have removed GracieP from the EDD list (she was under me for 19th May due date) as she is now back on the TTC forum after suffering an early miscarriage.
I am sure all your thought are with her

  • Hello ladies.

I have taken a bit of a tumble today :o I am not sure what happened other than I was trying to squeeze past a chair and I tripped a little and couldn't manage to right or catch myself before hitting the floor...with my head :o

I'm okay, a little sore, grazed knees and buised pride (luckily only 1 person there to see me) but I have come home and I am lying in bed.

I have had a little cry. Not because I am hurt but because I am a little shaken up and it really brought it home that there is more than just me to worry about.

I was going to go shopping this afternoon but I was thinking that I would be advising any of you guys to rest for a while so for the first time in my life I would take my own advice and do the sensible thing.

Oh bl**dy hell MFD go careful.

No wonder you had a bit of a cry, I am sure you were shocked.

I remember how I felt when I took that slide down the stairs about 6 weeks ago and that was on my back. Scared the living daylights out of me.

Cancel shopping, put your feet up and just take some you time to settle yourself down some.

Yes, that is mummy AF talking too!!!! (oh wow, i can be asertive, who would have thought)

I was at the physio about a month ago for SPD. She tried to put me back in place again and it didnt really work. Got the girdle thingie off her but found it too uncomfortable to wear unfortunatley as the pain is getting much worse now. Ive had it since I found out I was pregnant and its just got worse ever since. I Just hope it goes back into the right place after!

Oh and I hope you have more luck with the physio than I did.

    Emma :)
  • I have never been the most graceful of people - hubby calls me bambi and laughs about me not being clumsy, just unlucky ;) he says I am the only person in the world who can fall over whilst standing still :rotfl:

So it isn't out of character for me to trip myself up over a chair leg but I just couldn't stop myself hitting the floor :o

It could have been MUCH worse, I was out on site today so it could easily have been in front of a load of construction workers

I am being a good girl and resting up :A

I can't believe I am nearly halfway up the list already  16+4 today!
